Internship

Come be a part of one of the most unique internship programs in the entire U.S. Interns will have the opportunity to split their time between two of the best warm season clubs in the country with a significant variety of exposure and experience to gain. With over 54 holes to maintain between the two facilities, this would be a great opportunity to gain exposure to all aspects of golf course maintenance. Grass types include: TifEagle and Miniverde putting greens, Zeon zoysia, 419, and TifSport tees and fairways, Zeon and Palisades zoysia and 419 roughs. Irrigation systems include Rainbird and Toro. Equipment includes Toro and John Deere. The day-to-day responsibilities of this position are all dependent on the individual’s experience, skill level, aptitude, and desire to improve themselves This includes but is not limited to mowing greens, tees, fairways, and roughs, proper fertilizer and pesticide calibration/application, and water management. Interns will work closely with The Director of Agronomy, Superintendents, Assistant Superintendents, and Equipment Managers to gain a better understanding of all facets of the profession.

 

Whispering Pines is located in Trinity, Texas approximately 88 miles north of Houston situated on a spectacular 400-acre property featuring piney woods, creeks, lakes, natural dunes, and abundant wildlife. The 27-hole facility has been consistently ranked as the #1 course in the state (#51 in U.S.) and recently the #7 ranked Par 3 course in the U.S.

 

Founded by Jack Burke, Jr. and the late Jimmy Demaret in 1957, Champions Golf Club is one of the most historic, classic golf clubs in Texas. From its origin, Champions has consistently carved its place in golf history hosting the 1967 Ryder Cup Matches, 1969 US Open, 1993 US Amateur, several PGA Tour Championships as well as numerous other professional and amateur golf tournaments. The Cypress Creek course was designed by Ralph Plummer and opened for play in 1957 and the Jack Rabbit Course was originally designed by George Fazio in 1964 and completely renovated by Tom Fazio in 2002. Both courses are very unique in design and provide a spectacular playing experience in Northwest Houston. With over 300 single digit handicappers, Champions is known around the world as a “Players Club” with an expectation for championship conditions every day.

 

Educational Requirements

Currently enrolled in a 2 or 4 year degree or certificate program emphasizing turfgrass management.

Experience Requirements

Previous golf course experience is preferred but not required
