Assistant Superintendent

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists in planning and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees and fairways, schedules work and supervises the employees and the use of equipment
- Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment; supervises pesticides applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment; supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance or irrigation and drainage systems
- Assists in personnel management and evaluation, employee safety, personnel discipline.
- Plan and participate in the applications of fertilizers and plant protectants.
- Participate in the daily assignment of equipment to employees and inspect for proper use, cleaning, and storage to assigned parking.
- Coordinate with mechanics to ensure preventative maintenance, repairs, and readiness of equipment fleet.
- Observe and evaluate playing conditions (moisture, mowing quality, bunker raking, course set up) to take corrective action or report to Superintendent.
- Maintain effective employee and member relations.
- Assist the Superintendent in keeping records of maintenance activities, including but not limited to job tracking, and fertilizer and plant protectant applications as required by law.
- Have a working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course tees, fairways, greens; the planning cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation system, including wells; pumps and automatic controls
- Follow and comply with company and departmental safety policies to ensure a safe work environment.
- Must acquire current state certification of licensing as a pesticide applicator
Educational Requirements
Working on obtaining or currently have turf certificate in turf grass management from a recognized college or university
Experience Requirements
- 6 months to 1 year of golf course maintenance experience preferred.
- Strong organizational, and time management skills required.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to work as a part of a team.
- Must have a valid driver's license.
- The candidate will be required to obtain a State of Florida Pesticide License within 90 days of employment.
