Assistant Superintendent

Full-time

The assistant golf course superintendent reports directly to the golf course superintendent. Under the superintendent's supervision, the assistant superintendent directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course areas, including but not limited to, tees, greens, fairways, and cart paths.  The assistant superintendent may serve in the superintendent's capacity during his absence. 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Assists in planning and supervising the maintenance of greens, tees and fairways,  schedules work and supervises the employees and the use of equipment
  • Instructs equipment operators on the operation and care of mowing and other equipment; supervises pesticides applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment; supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance or irrigation and drainage systems
  • Assists in personnel management and evaluation, employee safety, personnel discipline.
  • Plan and participate in the applications of fertilizers and plant protectants.
  • Participate in the daily assignment of equipment to employees and inspect for proper use, cleaning, and storage to assigned parking.
  • Coordinate with mechanics to ensure preventative maintenance, repairs, and readiness of equipment fleet.
  • Observe and evaluate playing conditions (moisture, mowing quality, bunker raking, course set up) to take corrective action or report to Superintendent.
  • Maintain effective employee and member relations.
  • Assist the Superintendent in keeping records of maintenance activities, including but not limited to job tracking, and fertilizer and plant protectant applications as required by law.
  • Have a working knowledge of the maintenance of golf course tees, fairways, greens; the planning cultivating, pruning, and caring for plants, shrubs and trees; the characteristics and proper use of various fertilizers and soil conditioners; herbicides and pest control methods and materials; drainage control methods; and irrigation system, including wells; pumps and automatic controls
  • Follow and comply with company and departmental safety policies to ensure a safe work environment.
  • Must acquire current state certification of licensing as a pesticide applicator

Educational Requirements

Obtain or in the process of a degree or certificate in Agronomy, Plants & Soils Sciences, Turfgrass or related fields.

Experience Requirements

  • 6 months to 1 year of golf course maintenance experience preferred.
  • Strong organizational, and time management skills required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills and ability to work as a part of a team.
  • Must have a valid driver's license.
  • The candidate will be required to obtain a State of Florida Pesticide License.
