Assistant Superintendent
· Responsible for all maintenance practices of the golf course and practice facilities, including training new employees and equipment operation while maintaining club standards, and adhering to all Human Resource procedures.
· Ensures that standards of member services and playing conditions are met, handling administrative duties, safety requirements, and supervising 40+ employees to achieve goals and club standards.
· Plans, schedules, and supervises golf course maintenance personnel daily.
· Participates in construction and maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, and associated support facilities.
· Supervises repair and maintenance of mechanical and motorized equipment used on the golf course.
· Instructs equipment operators in safe, efficient operation and care of mowing and other equipment.
· Supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps, irrigation, and drainage systems.
· Assists with employee evaluations, safety, and discipline.
· Monitors daily golf course setup, inspection, and evaluation.
· Acts with departmental authority for practices and procedures in absence of Superintendents and/or Director.
· Inspects all areas for quality standards.
· Supervises employees and evaluates daily labor records.
· Schedules and conducts safety and staff meetings, participates in safety management meetings, and ensures enforcement with staff.
· Approves equipment schedules and conducts inventory controls for various materials.
· Provides input to Director for budget and department needs.
· Trains new and existing employees in job functions, equipment operation, safety, guest service standards, and departmental information.
· Implements agronomic programs: fertilization, chemical, and cultural practices.
· Conducts final daily course evaluation/inspection.
Additional Responsibilities:
· Works closely with Human Resources, supervisors, and employees to maintain a positive work environment.
· Has authority to expend overtime hours as needed to meet quality standards.
· Initiates purchase orders for golf course supplies.
· Communicates with all departments to accomplish tasks required by scheduling needs.
· Communicates with other departments regarding events.
· Works with Human Resources concerning employee matters.
· Evaluates products and services relative to present and future needs.
· Enforces Quail Ridge policies and procedures.
· Provides conflict resolution and counseling to employees.
· Attends required committee and management meetings as a Quail Ridge staff representative.
· Performs position with high standards, integrity, and efficiency.
· Recommends and provides input regarding employment changes.
· Prepares, reviews, and submits timecards/time records to payroll/HR.
· Performs other functions as assigned by management.
· Supervises 35-45 GCM work staff, including Golf Course Assistant Superintendent/IPM Manager, Light Equipment Operators, Heavy Equipment Operators, Spray Technicians, Irrigation Technicians, Interns, and other GCM employees.
Educational Requirements
· AS Degree or certificate in turf grass management/golf course management/agronomy/horticultural/plant/soil science or related field and/or equivalent experience.
Experience Requirements
· Must have knowledge of concepts, practices, and procedures in Golf Course Maintenance/Turf Maintenance.
· Knowledge of turf and landscaping equipment.
· Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
· Able to give and take directions.
· Excellent organizational skills and ability to complete tasks with limited supervision.
· Self-starter and eager to learn.
· Able to recognize and solve problems.
· Detail-oriented and possess time management skills.
· Fluent reading and writing in English.
· Able to deal effectively and tactfully with employees, management, and members.
· Computer skills including use of Windows, Microsoft Office Programs, and the Internet.
· Five years general golf course maintenance assistant superintendent experience.
· Knowledge of irrigation and current chemical practices.
· Florida State Pesticide License or ability to acquire within 6 months.
· Extensive knowledge of all turf equipment.
· Basic working knowledge of computer including spreadsheet applications and Microsoft applications.
· Thorough knowledge of Club standard operating policies and procedures.
· Continuing education classes related to golf course maintenance.
· Thorough understanding of golf course.
· Experience with supervision and training of staff.

Working Conditions:

· Must be regularly available and willing to work at least 8 hours per day, 40 hours per week.

· Requires various physical activities throughout the day.

· Frequently exposed to wet and/or humid conditions.
· Requires use of various fertilizers and chemicals associated with Golf Course Maintenance.
· Includes lifting, pushing, and/or pulling up to 80 pounds.
