Assistant Superintendent

South Shore Golf Course in Chicago, IL is looking for a motivated, energetic, detail oriented individual to become the Assistant Superintendent on our golf course maintenance team.  South Shore Golf Course is nestled along Lake Michigan and is part of the Chicago Park District Golf Portfolio.  The Assistant Superintendent at South Shore Golf Course will serve as the onsite supervisor and decision maker.  As a part of Indigo Sports, under the Troon umbrella, you will be joining the world largest golf management company with an array of industry opportunities available.

Responsibilities:

  • Works with the Superintendent to ensure that the annual golf course maintenance budget and capital plans are maintained and followed.
  • Supervises and assists maintenance staff in daily duties.
  • Supervises the planting and cultural practices involved in growing various turf grasses, trees and ornamental plants.
  • Ensures that  equipment is properly maintained.  
  • Assists in the procurement of supplies and materials and ensures costs remain within budgetary limitations.
  • Keeps records of annual maintenance activities and costs and assists with the preparation of required prepares reports.
  • Ensures all company policies and procedures are followed including compliance with government regulations.
  • Ensures associates obtain proper license needed to perform job tasks safely and within city, state, and federal regulations.  Addresses directly all real or perceived environmental concerns.
  • Manages department members that may include, but is not limited to: Mechanic, Spray Technician, Equipment Operator, Foreman, Greenskeeper, and Irrigation Technician.
  • Assures that effective orientation and training are given to each new associate.  Develops ongoing training programs.
  • Monitors business volume forecast and plans accordingly in areas of manpower, productivity, costs and other expenses.
  • Incorporates safe work practices in job performance.

Educational Requirements

  • 2 or 4 year turf degree preferred, but not required.

Experience Requirements

  • 1-3 years turf grass management.
  • Pesticide license preferred.
  • Supervisory experience preferred.
  • GCSAA Member or apprentice preferred.
  • Must possess basic computer skills – Word and Excel.
  • Must have a strong business aptitude and passion for the golf business.
  • Must be highly organized and efficient with a high attention to detail.
  • Must have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Must Possess strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
