Norfolk GC Assistant Superintendent

Norfolk Golf Club is a private golf club founded in 1896. Best described as a “hidden jewel”, our nine-hole course is consistently one of the best conditioned in the Greater Boston area. In the book The Finest Nines by Anthony Pioppi, Norfolk is recognized as one of the best nine hole golf courses in North America. Our membership takes pride in being inviting, informal and friendly. Many of our members represent the second and third generation of families who continue to enjoy the Norfolk experience.

The assistant superintendent is expected to be an integral part of the management team and be heavily involved in all aspects of golf course management. We operate with complete transparency and encourage team members to immerse themselves in all agronomic and business operations. The outgoing assistant is moving on to the next step in his career, this position is a tremendous opportunity to sharpen agronomic and management skills on the road to becoming a superintendent. Some of the responsibilities include:

 

  • Assisting in recruiting, hiring, scheduling, training, and performance management of crew. This is a leadership position which relies on motivational qualities and energy that builds a team culture among the crew.

  • Communicating with the superintendent in making daily golf course maintenance assignments in accordance with the agronomic / turf management plan

  • Assist our mechanic to troubleshoot and maintain performance of equipment / tools / machinery

  • Assist with maintaining budgets, inventory, and other necessary administrative duties.

  • Execute a water management program that is coordinated with the superintendent to ensure performance and firm playing conditions

  • Troubleshoot and repair irrigation system

  • Make fertilizer and chemical applications in accordance with agronomic plan

  • Maintain a positive, respectful, attentive, and professional relationship with membership

  • Positive attitude and willingness to be coached, and coach others

Educational Requirements

 

turf certificate or degree prefered, experience will be taken into consideration

Experience Requirements

minimum of 2 years as an assistant or 2nd assistant superintendent

Ma core applicators license or ability to obtain within 60 days
