Assistant Superintendent

Full-time

The Assistant Superintendent position will work directly with the Golf Course Superintendent and Lead Assistant Superintendent's to direct Staff on a daily basis.  This individual will also be responsible, under the direction of the Golf Course Superintendent, for the agronomic planning and applications to the course and associated grounds.  This individual will both perform fertility and chemical applications while also directing additional staff on proper spraying and application techniques in order to accomplish our agronomic goals.  This individual will also work closely with vendors to ensure we have necessary products for our applications while also staying within budget.  This means this individual will not only work on agronomic skills and team management skills but will also work on developing and managing budget line items under the direction of the Golf Course Superintendent.  We are looking for an individual that has a passion for this industry and a desire to grow and develop into a lead Assistant Superintendent.  It is our desire to help this individual achieve their career goals within the industry while also having this individual help us in achieving our goals of being both a great team and great operation that exceeds industry standards on a daily basis. 

Educational Requirements

A degree or certificate associated with this industry would be preferred BUT absolutely not required for the individual that is the right fit with our team.  Ultimately a desire to learn and a passion for golf and turf management!

Experience Requirements

Previous golf course or landscape experience preferred but again absolutely NOT a must for the individual that most fits our team and has a desire/passion for golf and turf management.

Special Requirements

  • Must be able to respond to emergency and after-hour calls on nights, weekends, and holidays.
  • Ability to read and write; ability to perform basic arithmetic
  • Ability to perform calibration of sprayers and spreaders
  • Knowledge of various chemicals and calibration of pesticides, fertilizers, and herbicides in accordance with the prescribed safety and directions located in the label
  • Must present a positive and professional image
  • Must be self-motivated and customer service oriented
  • Strong interpersonal, as well as written and verbal, communication skills
  • Reliable and predictable attendance
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors; ability to work cooperatively with turf associates, other club department associates, membership, and guests
  • Ability to work independently to carry out assignments to completion and to carry out assignments with minimal instructions
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Working knowledge of personal computers and software packages including Word, Excel, etc.
  • Working knowledge of First Aid and applicable safety precautions

Physical Requirements:

While performing the essential functions of this job, the Second Assistant Superintendent will frequently be required to lift, move, carry objects weighing up to 75 lbs. While performing the essential functions of this position the employee is frequently exposed to fumes, odors, or airborne particles; outdoor weather conditions including, but not limited, to dampness, wetness, or humidity; toxic or caustic substances; electrical current; excessive noise; grease and soil; and moving mechanical parts.

Ability to obtain a Georgia Pesticide Applicators license within 6 months of employment.
