Spray/Applications Technician

Overview:

Performs chemical applications on golf course properties and fertilizes tees, greens, and fairways; applies chemicals on greens. The Chemical Technician is responsible for reading, understanding, and keeping current with material Safety Data Sheets (MSDS). This position is also responsible for compiling preliminary reports of pesticide usage for the Golf Course Superintendent.

 Essential Duties:

1.      Under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent and the Assistant Superintendents perform pesticide applications on golf course properties.

2.      Spray Tech is responsible for appropriately applying all chemicals, pesticides, herbicides, and fertilizers associated with grounds and golf course maintenance.

3.      Responsible for reading, understanding, and keeping current with Safety Data Sheets and pesticide labels; responsible for compiling reports of pesticide usage (spray cards).

4.      Executes the spray program as directed by the Golf Course Superintendent.

5.      Maintains application equipment chemical storage and mixing areas in compliance with county, state, and federal regulations.

6.      Perform safe mechanical operation and calibration of application equipment.

7.      Must be able to safely operate a golf cart.

8.      Inspect all areas of property to determine pesticide and fertilizer needs.

9.      Apply pesticides and fertilizers as appropriate to maintain proper condition of golf course and grounds.

10.  Implement Integrated Pest Management practices.

11.  Maintain product inventory with appropriate recordkeeping.

12.  Perform other duties and/or tasks as directed by Management.

Educational Requirements

1.      High school diploma or equivalent is required.

2.      Must obtain a Pesticide Applicators License within 90 Days

Experience Requirements

1.      Minimum 1-year previous spray technician or pesticide application on golf courses.

  1. Valid driver’s license.     
  2. Must be able and willing to take directions.
  3.  Must possess excellent organizational skills and coordinate and complete tasks with limited supervision.
  4. Must be a self-starter and eager to learn.
  5. Must be able to recognize and solve problems.
  6. Must possess time management skills.
  7.  Must maintain high performance standards.
  8. Knowledge of chemicals; knowledge of insects; turf diseases; grasses and weeds.
  9. Knowledgeable in the safe mechanical operation and calibration of application equipment.
  10. Ability to deal effectively and cooperatively with employees, management and members.
  11. Must be a detail-oriented individual and possess time management skills.
