Overview:
The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent assists in planning, coordinating, and executing the golf course maintenance program.
Essential Duties:
- Assists 1ST AGCS in conducting morning crew meeting and is responsible for utilizing assignment board used to schedule, assign, and/or direct golf course maintenance staff to execute golf course management plan, including daily tasks and special projects
- Works with 1st AGCS for daily assessment of golf course, including presentation, course preparation, quality of play and hand watering needs
- Trains employees in normal golf course operation activities, including the safe and efficient use of all equipment involved
- Supervises and trains crew during special projects and daily maintenance, including weekend scheduling
- Conducts or supervises special equipment operation and project management (i.e. aeration, topdressing, fertilizing, etc)
- Conducts many of the fertilizer and chemical applications, including recording keeping
- Assists Irrigation Specialist with the operation of the irrigation system, including proper operation of pump stations and repairs to installed delivery systems
- Works with golf shop to secure proper daily operations of readiness for play, tournament preparation, direction of play, maintenance procedures, and member comments
- Participates in snow removal activities including scheduling, procedures, cleanup, preparation, and implementation
- Must be able to sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, lift 50 pounds.
Educational Requirements
- 2 or 4-year degree in turf management or agronomy required.
- Valid driver’s license
Experience Requirements
- 3 years golf course experience
- Understanding of the game of golf and preparation techniques for play
- Ability to supervise and schedule maintenance staff
- Golf course equipment operation and ability to train the use of
- The desire to continually learn and act strategically.
- Ability to work independently and with minimal of supervision.
- Possess good verbal and written skills.
- Ability to work in an environment that has constantly changing priorities.
- Ability to maintain a high level of confidentiality with all matters.
