Position: Full Time Seasonal Irrigation Specialist/2nd Assistant Superintendent Department: Golf Course Salary: $22 - $25/hr. DOQ Position Summary The irrigation specialist/2nd assistant superintendent is responsible for the programming, operation, maintenance, and repair of the golf course irrigation system, the installation of new irrigation, turf management, and the reporting of any irregularities in course turf quality. The employee may also operate vehicles or equipment for a variety of maintenance or construction tasks. The employee must exercise independent judgment when completing tasks. The employee must be able to meet the physical strength and dexterity requirements of the position. This job runs from the spring until the course is closed, typically after Thanksgiving. Supervision Received Works under the direct supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent and/or Assistant Superintendent. Supervision Exercised Some small crew assignments. Educational Requirements
Education and/or Experience
- Graduation from high school with 2 years experience as a golf course maintenance worker, and 2 years experience with installation and maintenance of sprinkler systems, or any equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Experience installing, maintaining, and repairing Rain Bird irrigation systems.
Experience Requirements
Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
- Working knowledge of basic electricity and hydraulics related to an irrigation system, including automatic valves and controllers, and working knowledge of various pumps and pumping systems.
- Working knowledge of planting and maintaining turf, water schedules and fertilizers.
- Working knowledge of safety practices and procedures while making repairs.
- Knowledge of various turf vehicles/equipment.
- Knowledge of and/or the ability to learn about the care and proper use of tools and equipment used in grounds and landscape area maintenance work.
- Ability to quickly learn maintenance, care and construction of greens, tees, fairways, hazards, bunkers, irrigation systems, and general grounds of the golf course.
- Knowledge of/or ability to learn about turf disease, insects, rodents, chemicals and methods used to control these elements.
- Understanding of agronomy, turf grass science and rules of golf.
- Ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with other employees and the public.
- Knowledge of/or ability to learn occupational hazards and safety precautions common to the position.
- Ability to work flexible hours with some weekend and holiday work.

- Must have a valid Colorado Driver's license.
- Must be available to be on call as assigned by the Golf Course Superintendent or Assistant Superintendent.
