Assistant Superintendent / Spray Technician 

Coosa Country Club est.1909 is a historic Beau Welling re-designed 18-hole private Country Club located in Rome, Georgia. Coosa is well known for its history hosting many major Amateur golf tournaments in Georgia. The 18-hole course features Pure Distinction bentgrass greens, bermuda/zoysia grass tees, bermuda grass fairways and rough, and fescue rough in common areas.

The individual we are seeking needs to be hard working, self-driven, and a highly motivated person. This is a hands-on position that requires hard work and dedication to advancing your career. The job requires the individual to obtain a Ga. pesticide applicators license within 6 months of employment. Excellent opportunity for a recent college graduate looking to get a foot in the door at a great private club. Upward advancement/promotion available.

In 2022-2023 the Coosa Country Club golf course completed a complete USGA Greens Construction restoration, Bunker renovation and complete Irrigation renovation.

Description:
The Assistant Superintendent will develop the skills and knowledge to assist in the management of all golf course maintenance responsibilities through a combination of training and hands-on experience.

Coosa Country Club offers a fantastic opportunity for an aspiring Golf Course Superintendent to work and learn in an environment of consistent improvement. The Assistant position at Coosa will be actively involved with golf course operations, spraying applications, irrigation, and team development. Our goal is to help you lay a solid foundation on which to build a successful Golf Course Superintendent career.

The primary responsibility will be assisting the Director of Agronomy, and Golf Course Superintendent in the supervision and training of maintenance staff as well as properly applying pesticides and fertilizer to the golf course. The Assistant will also be involved with irrigation repair and maintenance as well as greens management and course set up.  This position will have weekend crew management responsibilities every third weekend.

As a filling a vital role to Golf Course Maintenance Team, the Assistant is responsible for the maintenance and care of the golf course and grounds working directly with the Director of Agronomy, and Golf Course Superintendent. This is a transitional position to provide guidance for an individual’s growth and promotion in the golf course industry.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
Golf Course Management:
Operations

  • Accountable for daily updating of course details and work progress spreadsheets
  • Active role in monitoring of daily staff assignments versus course standards
  • Course set-up, cutting hole locations, managing teeing areas, detail work
  • Spraying Application required for the maintenance of the golf courses and grounds
  • Wilt-watching, bentgrass greens management
  • Irrigation repair and maintenance
  • Assist in routine maintenance work such as, walk mowing, bunkers, trimming, etc...

Educational Requirements

Specific Job Knowledge, Requirements, Skills and Abilities:

  • Have completed, or completing a degree in turf management or related field
  • Knowledge of the proper spraying techniques required for the maintenance of the golf course
  • Read and understand general business publications, professional publications, etc.
  • Operate the necessary equipment required for the maintenance of the golf courses and grounds
  • Have or obtain within 6 months a GA state pesticide applicators license
  • Show a strong interest in self-improvement by joining professional organizations as well as participating in continuing education or training opportunities such as seminars, trade shows, etc.
  • Entry level computer skills
