Assistant Superintendent

JOB TITLE: Assistant Superintendent
EMPLOYER: Farmington Woods Master Association
REPORTS TO: Golf Course Superintendent

The overall goal of the assistant superintendent is to work closely with the superintendent of grounds to provide an overall outstanding golf experience for our members. With this goal in mind, some of the tasks that will be required are as follows:

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

● Assist in personnel management, supervising, evaluating, and scheduling practices of the work force.
● Daily mowing of greens, approaches, tees, fairways and rough
● Bunker maintenance including raking, edging and trimming
● Line trimming and brush cutting around features of the golf course
● Trimming around irrigation heads and range markers
● Arrange for the repair of equipment so that it does not impact operations
● Knowledge of operating and repairing irrigation
● Hand watering practices

SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
• Supervise and schedule work assignments for Farmington Woods golf grounds maintenance staff at the golf course.
• Provide appropriate personal protective equipment for staff.
• Communicate to the golf operations staff regarding golf course conditions or maintenance issues that may affect normal
play.
• Engage the grounds staff professionally and courteously in providing feedback or details on work duties.
• Promote interaction with the grounds staff to promote teamwork


QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:
• Excellent supervisory and conflict management skills.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills.
• Knowledge of golf facility construction principles, practices, and methods.
• Thorough understanding of the rules and strategies of the game of golf.
• Advanced knowledge of agronomy and turf grass management practices, including the growing process.
• Working knowledge of current federal, state, and local laws and regulations affecting the management of golf course operations.
• Working knowledge of computers and computer software, including email, Microsoft Word, Excel, and automated irrigation systems.
● Have or obtain a Connecticut applicator's license

PREFERRED BUT NOT REQUIRED:
• Minimum 3 years of course maintenance experience.

Educational Requirements

• High degree of administrative and executive ability, especially in problem-solving and decision-making.
