Assistant Superintendent

Gulf Stream Golf Club is seeking a driven, team-oriented Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join our agronomic leadership team. This is a newly created position due to departmental growth and an exciting opportunity for a motivated individual to contribute to one of the most well-maintained courses in the country. The AGCS will take on substantial leadership responsibility within a clearly defined management structure, focusing on daily maintenance scheduling, irrigation management, or chemical/fertilizer applications.

Club Highlights:

  • 2025 Maintenance Budget: $3,374,530
  • Capital Budget: $2,000,000
  • Total annual rounds: Approximately 17,000
  • Total staff: 28 Full-Time Employees
  • Typical work schedule:
    • In Season (Oct–May): M–Th: 5:30am–5:00pm; F: Off (if working weekend); Sat: 5:30–11:30am + PM rotation; Sun: One AGCS on duty. Every other weekend.
    • Off Season (June–Sept): M–F: 5:30am–4:00 or 5:00pm; Every third weekend for moisture management.
  • Turf types:
    • Greens: TifEagle Bermuda
    • Tees, Fairways, Surrounds: Celebration Bermuda
    • Others: St. Augustine and Paspalum in select areas
  • Future projects:
    • Extensive summer enhancement programs
    • Holistic drainage master planning following a coastal vulnerability study
    • Practice facility upgrades, regrassing, native area expansion, and irrigation replacements
    • Maintenance facility renovation planned for summer 2027
  • Irrigation system: Toro
  • Equipment: John Deere leased fleet (brand new October 2025)

Initial Priorities of Position:

  • Support course conditioning and maintenance through the busy summer season
  • Learn and adapt to the scheduling, irrigation, or chemical responsibilities assigned
  • Demonstrate initiative and commitment to the club's mission of excellence

Key Responsibilities, Knowledge, Skills, and Aptitude:

  • Lead and schedule daily golf course maintenance operations
  • Serve as primary manager of irrigation OR chemical application program
  • Communicate effectively with Superintendent and team on all agronomic needs
  • Scout turf health, analyze moisture data, identify and correct problem areas
  • Train, supervise, affirm, and discipline staff in alignment with club culture
  • Maintain records of chemical applications, irrigation water usage, and schedules
  • Promote continuous improvement in maintenance practices and operational efficiency
  • Represent Gulf Stream Golf Club professionally at all times

Preferred Qualifications:

  • High School diploma required; Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in turf or related field preferred
  • Entry-level to 3 years of experience in golf course maintenance or related environment
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to obtain Florida pesticide license
  • Strong computer literacy (Excel, Word, email)
  • Highly organized with strong problem-solving skills
  • Willingness to take direction and grow in responsibilities

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary: $70,000 - $75,000, DOE
