Assistant Superintendent
Talisker Club at Tuhaye, one of North America’s preeminent real estate developers is seeking an Assistant Superintendent for its exclusive private golf community Talisker Club at Tuhaye.
Designed by Mark O’Meara, this 18-hole golf course features bentgrass Greens, Tees, and Fairways strategically placed within the native landscape overlooking the Jordanelle reservoir and with stunning views of nearby Mount Timpanogos and Deer Valley Resort.
POSITION DESCRIPTION:
The Assistant Superintendent works with the Director of Agronomy and management team in maintaining and operating the golf course in an efficient, modern, and competitive state. Responsibilities also include delegating work assignments, overseeing job performance, and inspecting course conditions daily. Irrigation repair and scheduling, as well as chemical and fertilizer applications are also primary components of this position.
REPORTS TO: The Assistant Superintendent works under the direction of the Director of Agronomy, Superintendent, and in some instances the Equipment Manager in a supervisory capacity.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Summer Season: Oversees the completion of work assignments and assists with on course decisions regarding job procedures, work standards, and safe and efficient machinery use. Responsible for continuing the daily course operations in the absence of the Director or Assistant Superintendent. Typically work between 45-55 hours per week during the summer season (April-October). Other duties include:
· Maintain golf course Putting Greens, Tees, Fairways, Roughs, Bunkers, Ponds, Streams, and related structures through sound agronomic practices.
· Perform the aerifying of Greens, Tees, Fairways, and other golf course turf seasonally and as needed.
· Perform sprayer and spreader calibration and application of fertilizers and pesticides; responsibilities include the safety and direction of chemical handlers and/or helpers as well as the proper tank mixing as specified by the Director of Agronomy.
· Maintain application records and MSDS relating to the use of chemicals on the course, while tracking chemical inventories.
· Operate, repair, and maintain both golf course and clubhouse irrigation and pumping systems; actively participate in the daily programming of irrigation cycles.
· Assist in the hiring, transfer, suspension, and/or discharge of assigned personnel.
· Train personnel in correct and safe methods and procedures necessary to accomplish their work.
Winter Season: Duties are variable based on the needs of the company or other departments; however, most of the workload is spent on preparing for the upcoming season. Typically work 40 hours per week during the winter season (November-March). Other duties include:
· Snow removal (sidewalks and parking lots) at Talisker Club Park, golf shop, sales gallery, and maintenance facility.
· Maintain cross country ski trail, grooming equipment and outdoor ice rink.
· Under the guidance of the Equipment Manager, assist in preventative maintenance of golf course equipment which includes filter changes, reel sharpening, mower adjustment, and tire dismount/remount.
· Work with members of the maintenance team in planning and preparation for the upcoming season.
· Attend regional educational seminars and training.
Other duties as assigned for winter and summer scope.
Educational Requirements
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
· Preferred 2 or 4-year degree in turfgrass-related field, plus 3 years of golf course work experience.
Experience Requirements
RELEVANT WORK EXPERIENCE: Requires knowledge of the tools, methods and materials used in grounds construction, landscaped area maintenance work and building maintenance and improvement; ability to operate trucks and light motorized equipment, knowledge of agronomy and turfgrass science and the rules of golf; must have the ability to follow oral and written directions.
Special Requirements
· Requires a valid driver’s license.
· Candidate will be required to obtain and maintain a valid State of Utah Non-Commercial pesticide applicator’s license.
· The candidate should desire to pursue a career in golf course management, have strong organizational skills, be highly organized and detail oriented.
· Spanish speaking a plus.
