Assistant Superintendent
The golf course assistant superintendent is responsible for the health and daily upkeep of the playing conditions on the golf course and working alongside the Golf Course Superintendent to ensure all is kept visually and mechanically sound throughout the course, all while getting to enjoy the beautiful scenery as they go! This position is great for those have difficulty sitting still. With the tasks at hand, there is never a dull moment! This will be a full assistant superintendent experience exposing you to all aspects of golf course management preparing you to become a superintendent. Responsibilities include:
- Personnel management and training
- Top dressing
- Mowing/Equipment operations
- Cup Changing
- Watering
- Sodding/seeding
- General maintenance
- Equipment maintenance and repair
- Irrigation scheduling, maintenance and repair
- Fertilization and chemical applications (when necessary)
- Communication with resort management
- Responsibilities are varied on a daily and seasonal basis and are dictated by the needs of the golf course and directed by the superintendent.
- Once established in position, responsibilities may also include training of additional Greenskeeper staff
Educational Requirements
High school diploma
Experience Requirements
1 year experience in a related position, required.
Special Requirements
* Must obtain Missouri pesticide applicators license in first year
* 1 year experience in a related position, required.
* Ability to work weekends
* An assistant superintendent should be familiar with golf and have an understanding of good golf etiquette.
* An eye for detail and aesthetics are essential in maintaining the quality conditions that are essential of a resort style golf course.
* The position is sometimes a physically strenuous position that can require lifting more than 50 pounds, have repetitive motions and frequent bending and stooping.
* Most of the work is completed in an open outdoor setting so the ability to work for long periods in the seasonal environmental stresses is a necessity.
A VALID DRIVER'S LICENSE IS REQUIRED FOR EMPLOYMENT
