Irrigation Technician

Club Renaissance is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Irrigation Technician to maintain and manage the golf course's irrigation system. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience with golf course irrigation systems, a strong understanding of turfgrass water requirements, and a proactive approach to maintenance and troubleshooting.

Job Title: Experienced Irrigation Technician – Golf Course
Location: Club Renaissance, Sun City Center, FL
Job Type: Full-Time
Reports To: Golf Course Superintendent, Assistant Superintendent

Key Responsibilities:

  • Monitor, operate, repair, install and maintain all irrigation systems, including pump stations, controllers, valves, heads, and piping.
  • Diagnose and repair electrical and mechanical issues within the irrigation system.
  • Adjust system run times and schedules to align with turf health and weather conditions.
  • Perform regular inspections to ensure optimal system performance.
  • Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and system adjustments.
  • Collaborate with the Superintendent and Assistant Superintendent to support agronomic goals.
  • Train and assist grounds crew with proper irrigation techniques.
  • Monitor water usage and ensure compliance with any applicable water regulations.
  • Assist with other golf course jobs as needed.

Qualifications:

  • Minimum 1-3 years of experience in irrigation maintenance on a golf course or similar setting.
  • Knowledge of central control systems (e.g., Toro Lynx, Rain Bird, or similar). Including programming, scheduling and troubleshooting
  • Familiarity with pump station operation and maintenance, including flow sensors, pressure regulation, and preventative maintenance.
  • Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills.
  • Valid driver’s license required; irrigation certification is a plus.
  • Must be available to work early mornings, weekends, holidays as needed and on-call rotations during peak season.
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently and as part of a team
  • Familiarity with South Florida’s weather patterns and ability to adjust irrigation scheduling accordingly to avoid overwatering or drought stress. 

Other Qualifications:

  • Must be organized, with a strong sense of urgency and attention to detail.
  • Have good time management skills.
  • Prior golf course maintenance and irrigation experience is a major plus.
  • Must be able to multi-task, solve problems, and prioritize well.

Technical Skills:

  • Ability to identify and repair issues with valves, sprinkler heads, controllers, wiring, and piping.
  • Comfortable working with high-pressure water systems and electrical components safely.
  • Capable of reading irrigation plans and system maps.
  • Proficiency in using moisture meters, climate data, and other turf monitoring tools.

Physical Requirements:

  • Ability to work outdoors in high heat, humidity, and inclement weather typical of South Florida.
  • Must be able to lift 50 lbs, bend, squat, dig, stand and walk long distances across varying terrain.
  • Comfortable working in and around water hazards, lakes and marshy areas.
  • Self-motivated with strong organizational skills and attention to detail.

Educational Requirements

High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) required.

-        A 2-4/yr turf degree or certificate is preferred but not required.
