Assistant Superintendent
A new, private golf property nestled in the heart of Montana’s Big Sky country is seeking a driven and detail-oriented 1st Assistant Superintendent to join their team during the grow-in phase and help bring the golf course and overall property to life.
With construction underway and an opening target of June 2026, the individual chosen for this role will work directly with the Golf Course Superintendent, Jarod Spurlin, to build and maintain a best-in-class golf experience. In addition, this position offers the unique opportunity to collaborate closely with the golf course architects on key projects, providing direct input and insight into the design and construction process.

Typical Work Schedule:
- In-Season (June–October): M–F 6am–4pm, Sa–Su 6am–2pm; One weekend off per month
- Off-Season (Dec–Feb): M–Th 8am–4pm, F–Sa 8am–2pm; Sundays off
- Turf Types: Wall-to-wall fine fescue
- Future Projects: Complete course and practice area grow-in, nursery development, target greens and tees for on-site cottages, potential long-range short course
- Irrigation System: Watertronics pump station, Toro Lynx operating system, 1,600+ Infinity heads
- Equipment: Primarily leased Toro & Turfco (3-year lease), plus owned tractors, skid steer, dump truck, excavator, trap rake, interseeder

Initial Priorities of Position:
- Obtain and maintain Montana pesticide license
- Execute spraying and chemical applications
- Conduct full Toro Lynx and Infinity system audit and troubleshooting
- Assist with grow-in procedures and early-stage playability standards
Key Responsibilities, Knowledge, Skills, and Aptitude:
- Support the Superintendent in day-to-day golf and grounds operations
- Lead, train, and supervise the turf team
- Maintain and improve fine fescue turf quality through sound agronomic practices
- Troubleshoot and maintain a modern irrigation system
- Help manage the ranch property beyond the golf course (e.g., cattle, arena, tree and range cleanup)
- Demonstrate consistent attention to detail and initiative across all property areas
- Participate in long-term planning and improvement of course and infrastructure
Preferred Qualifications:
- 4–7 years of progressive turf experience, ideally in fine fescue or minimalist settings
- Associate or bachelor’s degree in turfgrass management or related field (preferred, not required)
- Experience with grow-ins and course construction a plus
- Toro Lynx and Infinity head experience preferred
- Pesticide applicator’s license (or willingness to obtain)
- Ability to live on-site and adapt to rural mountain living
Compensation & Benefits:
- $75,000 – $85,000
