Assistant Superintendent

Kilmarlic Golf Club is a premier coastal golf facility just before the Wright Memorial Bridge to the the Outer Banks. We pride ourselves on exceptional playing conditions, strong team culture, and ongoing commitment to agronomic excellence.  Kilmarlic Golf Club sits on 605 acres of maritime forest and wetlands and is a semi private/public accessed course located in Powell's Point, North Carolina.   

We are seeking a qualified, motivated, and hardworking individual to serve as a Assistant Superintendent.   The successful candidate will assist in directing the agronomic and maintenance operations of the golf course, practice facilities, clubhouse grounds and cottage facilities.  This role involves both hands-on work and supervisory responsibilities, with opportunities for growth and collaboration across all facets of the maintenance department.  

Experience Requirements

  • Assist in planning, scheduling, and executing day-to-day maintenance operations (greens, tees, fairways, roughs, bunkers, irrigation)

  • Lead, train, and supervise maintenance crews; foster strong team morale and a positive workplace culture

  • Perform and oversee chemical, fertilizer, and pesticide applications (boom spraying and walk spreading applications)

  • Monitor turf health, scout for pests/disease

  • Maintain and repair irrigation issues, existing drainage and continue upgrading drainage throughout property

  • Collaborate in hiring, performance reviews, and staff development

  • Assist in budgeting, cost tracking, and record-keeping (materials, labor, chemical logs)

  • Step in as acting Superintendent when necessary

  • Ensure compliance with federal, state, and local regulations (especially in chemical use and safety)

  • Maintain equipment cleanliness, storage, and general facility upkeep

 

Special Requirements

 

  • 2 years of golf course maintenance experience, with strong emphasis on hand-watering bent grass greens and water management

  • Supervisory or leadership experience desired

  • Knowledge of turf grass science, pest/disease management, soil fertility, and irrigation systems

  • Experience with calibration and safe application of chemicals/fertilizers

  • Ability to read and interpret maintenance plans, irrigation schematics, and turf reports

  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

  • Valid driver’s license

  • State pesticide applicator’s license (or ability to obtain in a reasonable timeframe)

  • Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and extended hours during peak season
