Assistant Superintendent
Due to one of our Assistant Superintendents moving on to take over his own club as Superintendent, a vacancy has opened on our team.
Chevy Chase Club was established in the fall of 1892 by members of Washington D.C.’s Metropolitan Club, who sought a country retreat where they could enjoy horses, sports, and social gatherings, away from the bustle of the growing city.
In 1894, the Club secured its first permanent location on land that included the historic Bradley Farmhouse. Golf was introduced the following year with a six-hole layout, coinciding with the founding of the USGA. By 1897, the Club had purchased the 9.36-acre tract surrounding the Bradley House.
Today, Chevy Chase Club is a premier, full-service private club offering an 18-hole golf course, extensive practice facilities, 17 outdoor and 4 indoor tennis courts, 7 paddle tennis courts, a fitness center, 3 swimming pools, duckpin bowling lanes, an outdoor ice rink, an 18-room guest house, a nature trail, and greenhouses. Dining options include three clubhouse restaurants, banquet spaces, two seasonal canteens, and the casual Winter Center.
The golf course has a rich architectural legacy. It was originally laid out by the Club’s early Scottish golf professionals Willie Tucker, George Sargent, and Robert White. In 1911, Donald Ross was commissioned to redesign the existing golf course, with input from Walter Travis. A subsequent renovation was carried out by the firm of Colt & Alison between 1922 and 1924. Most recently, in 2024, the course underwent a comprehensive renovation led by golf course architect Andrew Green, which included new tees, bunkers, and greens, expanded fairways, thoughtful tree removal, and the installation of a new Rain Bird IC irrigation system. The course remains primarily a walking golf course, with golf carts permitted only for golfers aged 65 and older.
