Assistant Superintendent

Miakka Golf Club, a premier private facility located in Myakka City, Florida, is seeking a Senior Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join our agronomy team. This is an exciting opportunity for a motivated professional to contribute to the development and maintenance of a world-class golf experience. Club Highlights:

  • Total Staff: Currently 25 with potential to be 50+ once fully staffed
  • Typical Work Schedule: Monday–Friday, 7:00 a.m. – 5:00 p.m.; minimally every other weekend off 
  • Turf Types: Stadium Zoysia on tees and fairways, Lazer Zoysia on greens and approaches, experimental Zoysia varieties, Centipede, and Bahia in natural areas
  • Irrigation System: Toro 2-wire system 
  • Equipment: John Deere/Toro (majority leased) 
  • Future Projects: Continued grow-in and refinement of course conditions with opportunities for innovation and experimentation

Initial Priorities of the Position: 

  • Become familiar with course operations, goals, and agronomic standards
  • Develop relationships with the management team and maintenance staff 
  • Assist in day-to-day course maintenance and agronomic practices 
  • Contribute to the refinement of existing maintenance programs and scheduling 

Key Responsibilities, Knowledge, Skills, and Aptitude: 

  • Assist the Superintendent with all aspects of agronomic management, including mowing, irrigation, fertilization, aeration, topdressing, and pesticide applications 
  • Supervise, train, and motivate the maintenance staff in proper techniques, safety procedures, and quality standards 
  • Monitor turf health, moisture levels, and overall course conditions to ensure championship-level playability 
  • Troubleshoot and maintain irrigation systems, including scheduling and repair oversight 
  • Maintain accurate records for chemical and fertilizer applications in compliance with regulations 
  • Oversee daily crew assignments, ensuring efficient use of labor and resources 
  • Support budget preparation, inventory management, and equipment planning 
  • Serve as a key member of the leadership team and act as Superintendent in their absence 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • Certificate or Associate Degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field (required) 
  • 4–7 years of relevant golf course maintenance experience 
  • Strong understanding of warm-season turf management 
  • Florida pesticide applicator license (or ability to obtain) 
  • Excellent organizational, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Demonstrated leadership experience and a desire for career advancement 

Compensation & Benefits:

  • Salary Range: $80,000–$100,000

Educational Requirements

Certificate or Associate Degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or related field (required)
