Assistant Superintendent
Salem Country Club is an 18 hole private golf course founded in 1895, designed by Donald Ross. It has been the host of two United States Senior Opens, two United States Women’s Opens, United States Senior Amateur, and a United States Women’s Amateur. Salem Country Club is located 30 minutes north of Boston.
The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent will work closely with the Golf Course Superintendent to lead the maintenance and management of our championship-level course. This is a highly collaborative, hands-on role for a motivated individual who can help manage day-to-day operations and play a key part in the planning and execution of our upcoming 5 million dollar course wide irrigation project.
Essential Functions and Responsibilities
Team Leadership: Supervise, schedule, train, and motivate the maintenance staff to ensure all daily tasks are completed to the club's high standards.
Agronomic Programs: Implement and oversee all fertility and plant protectant programs. Perform calibrations and applications as directed, ensuring compliance with all local, state, and federal regulations.
Turf Health: Scout for pests, diseases, and turf stress, and communicate findings and recommendations to the Superintendent. Perform hand-watering and other cultural practices to ensure optimal playing conditions.
Course Preparation: Assist with daily course setup for member play and tournaments, including tee and pin placements.
Equipment Operation: Safely operate and train others on a variety of golf course equipment, performing routine inspections and preventative maintenance.
Record Keeping: Maintain detailed records of chemical applications, task completion, and other maintenance activities.
Project Management: Support the Superintendent in the planning and execution of ongoing and future course improvement projects.
Educational Requirements
An Associate's, Bachelor's degree or Certificate in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, Horticulture, or a related field is preferred
Experience Requirements
2-3 years of golf course maintenance experience
Special Requirements
Ability to obtain a Massachusetts Pesticide Applicator License within 90 days of hire. Valid Driver’s License.
