Assistant Superintendent

The Washington Golf Club, one of the oldest golf clubs in the United States, began in 1889 as the Washington Field Club, and in 1897 became the Washington Golf Club. In 1914 the Golf Club merged with the Washington Club.

Located at the end of Golf Course Road, just off Wykeham Road, it provides an idyllic setting for a round of golf. The golf course's pristine grounds are nestled in the Litchfield Hills and provide our members and their guests a challenging yet tranquil 9 or 18-hole round of golf from early spring to late autumn.

The Club is seeking a highly motivated individual to perform a dual role of being the Assistant Superintendent/Equipment Manager. The Assistant Superintendent is a leadership position that involves all aspects of golf course management.  Daily tasks will include course setup, water management, pest identification and management, irrigation repair, project planning and management, tournament preparation, and team leadership. The equipment manager position involves the upkeep of current equipment including preventative maintenance, repairs, parts ordering, grinding and maintaining reel cutting units.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Degree in Turf Management, Horticulture, Agronomy, or a related field preferred but not required.
• At least 2 years of golf course maintenance experience
• Basic mechanical experience with gas/diesel engines, hydraulics, electrical, etc.
• Working knowledge of golf, agronomy, and turf care practices.
• Leadership ability and interest in managing a team.
• Hands-on familiarity with course equipment and irrigation systems.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Pesticide Application license preferred, or willingness to obtain with our support.

Salary & Benefits:

• Salary range: $60,000 to $75,000, based on experience
