Assistant Superintendent

GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent is a full-time, exempt employee of the TwinEagles Club, reporting directly to the Golf Course Superintendent and will work in partnership with other Golf Course Maintenance leaders and employees. Under supervision of the Superintendent, the Assistant’s primary responsibility consists of assisting the Golf Course Superintendent and the Director of Agronomy with supervision and routine management of all related functions concerning golf course maintenance services related to daily, weekly, seasonal and annual golf course grounds. This includes (but not limited to); daily golf course maintenance services, employee leadership, training, education and supervision of golf course maintenance employees, budget development and management, assist with golf course renovation projects management, irrigation controls and management, chemical and fertilizer application, management planning and development.

 

 

 

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Quality leadership and supervision of golf course maintenance employees.
  • Training and educational planning and execution of all golf course maintenance employees.

·         Assist in scheduling of all golf course maintenance employees with daily, weekly, seasonal and annual tasks and projects.

  • Assuring that the most important job tasks of Golf Course Services and Set Up are organized, orchestrated and achieved on a daily basis.
  • Daily, weekly and monthly golf course conditioning evaluations and assistance with daily records, monthly report writing for informational conveyance to the appropriate club representatives through The respective Golf Course Superintendent and the Director of Agronomy.
  • Responsible for assisting with all agronomic practices planning, budgeting and implementation with an emphasis on Best Management Practices.
  • Management of all fertilizer and chemical application process, including record keeping, safety management, inventory management and continuing education for self and all key staff with these responsibilities.
  • Assist with the care and management of departmental structures, fixed assets, mobile equipment, tools, furniture and fixtures, and electronic equipment.

 

ADDITIONAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assist with the golf course maintenance budgeting process and, research of necessary purchases for resources and materials related to conducting the operations of the Golf Course Maintenance Department
  • Assist the Golf Course Superintendent and the Director of Agronomy with the preparation of Capital Expense Recommendations through 1, 3, 5 and 10-year projections.
  • Participate in meetings, as directed, by the Golf Course Superintendent or, the Director of Agronomy with any and all professional service providers including Golf Course Architects, Engineers, Designers, Contractors, Vendors and related staff.
  • Conduct timely operational correspondences with associated administrative personnel, senior staff, subordinate staff.
  • In the absence of the Golf Course Superintendent, represent The Club with any and all aspects of golf course/maintenance.
  • Evaluation and purposeful inspection of all aspects of Safety and Security of all employees, club policy and procedures, employee actions, behaviors, work processes and club assets. Report any and all Safety and Security concerns as they are presented immediately to your supervisors.
  • Assist with the development of and produce and provide semi-annual performance reviews for all employees in concert with the Superintendent.
  • Conduct safety meetings, inspections and monitor all safety policies within department. Create and provide addendums to existing policies to improve quality of education and training programs.
  • Assist with monitoring all inventory levels including fuel usage and storage systems, equipment parts, chemicals and irrigation parts.
  • Assist the Golf Course Superintendent and the Director of Agronomy, with the coordination of all construction projects related to in-house and out-of-house projects within the golf course. Assist as directed with plans for golf course construction, reconstruction, competitive enhancements, irrigation projects and renovation projects.

 

Educational Requirements

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:

  • Associate degree or higher in Turf Grass Management/Golf Course Management, Agri-business, Parks and Recreation or related field with specialty in agronomy, horticulture, plant, and soil sciences, preferred.
  • Minimum three (3) years of experience in the Golf Course Maintenance Industry in a leadership position such as Chemical/Spray Technician, 2nd Assistant Golf Course Superintendent, Assistant Golf Course Superintendent or Golf Course Superintendent, preferred.
  • Must be willing to attend education classes related to golf course maintenance field for continuing education.
  • Have or will obtain the Florida Ornamental and Turf Pesticide License within 180 days of initial employment.
  • Must have or be or be able to obtain a Florida Golf-BMP Certificate within 180 days of initial employment.
  • Working knowledge of golf course maintenance and agronomy and general turf grass best management practices, preferred.
  • Plays Golf. And, a thorough understanding of the rules and strategies of the game of golf, preferred.

WORKING CONDITIONS AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential duties and responsibilities of this position.

 

·         Will work outdoors and may be exposed to wet and/or hot conditions

·         Exposure to moving mechanical parts, toxic or caustic chemicals, fumes or airborne particles, risk of electrical shock, sharp objects, extreme heat and/or open flame.

·         Moderate noise environment.

·         Must be able to stand and walk for up to (10) hours per day .

·         Ability to perform first aid and CPR while utilizing the emergency equipment.

·         Move or lift objects up to 50 pounds.

·         Must be able to climb, crawl, reach, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, push or pull.

·         Communication, to include: reading, hearing, and talking with employees and members.

·         Must have close, distance, peripheral, and color vision along with the ability to adjust focus.

·         Must have valid driver’s license.
