Pitman Golf Course is an 18-hole public facility owned and operated by the County of Gloucester. Recognized as a local favorite and consistently voted Best Golf Course in the area, Pitman is proud of its history as a true “hometown classic.” The County of Gloucester is seeking an Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join our leadership team.
The ideal candidate will bring a strong work ethic, a positive attitude, and a desire to contribute to the continued growth and direction of our facility. This is a civil service position within the County’s unionized workforce and includes a competitive salary and excellent benefits package.
Position Overview
The Assistant Superintendent will play a key role in all aspects of golf course maintenance operations. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

Operating a full range of turf maintenance equipment

Applying pesticides and fertilizers

Assisting with irrigation system repairs

Performing basic maintenance on equipment as needed

Supervising staff and managing daily assignments

Overseeing small projects throughout the season
Our maintenance team, led by the Head Superintendent, includes full-time and seasonal staff—a small but dedicated group committed to delivering high-quality playing conditions. The Assistant Superintendent will also be entrusted with managing operations in the Superintendent’s absence.
Educational Requirements
Degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management or related field with two years experience at a golf course will be considered.
Applicants who have served multiple internships or those with more experience but less schooling will be considered.
NJ Pesticide Applicator License, or ability to obtain within 90 days.
Experience Requirements
Supervisory experience with the ability to lead and motivate staff
Valid driver’s license
Experience operating and performing basic repairs on irrigation systems
Strong communication and leadership skills
Detail-oriented with a commitment to quality
Demonstrated growth mindset with a focus on continuous improvement
Job Benefits
$62,629 salary with annual contractual increases
