Assistant Superintendent

Full-time

Under general supervision of the park superintendent, this employee performs supervisory work at the full performance level by being responsible for Cacapon Resort State Park grounds maintenance department. This employee will be responsible for the appearance, repair, and general care of the grounds of Cacapon Resort State Park and Golf Course. Including mowed areas, picnic sites, and manicured areas around the lodge, cabins, and other buildings. Work will include: Irrigation repair, chemical applications, hand watering, course set up, drainage projects, tree work. Supervises and performs the planting of grass, flowers, shrubs, trees; mowing of grass and trimming of shrubbery and trees. Performs snow removal, trail maintenance, and road maintenance. Performs necessary preventive measures for insect and vermin control and against other damaging effects. Selects supplies and equipment for the care and upkeep of the grounds. Performs additional routine grounds and roadway maintenance work and/or assign work to other staff. Must possess the ability to plan, layout and supervise the work of employees. . Must possess good verbal and written communications skills, interact with park visitors in a courteous and professional manner, and maintain efficient working relationships with other staff members. Trains new employees and implements policies, procedures, and regulations of the department. Completes employees’ performance evaluations, approves annual and sick leave, and recommends hiring, disciplinary actions, and other personnel actions. Must have flexibility in work schedule; will be required to work weekdays, weekends, and holidays as necessary. Will be required to wear a park uniform and obtain a West Virginia State purchasing card. Must possess or acquire a valid West Virginia CDL driver’s license. Must possess excellent hospitality and customer service skills. Performs related duties as required. Regular attendance is required. 

Educational Requirements

  Degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management (2- or 4-year program) preferred. Not required.
