Horticulturist
The Country Club of Buffalo is a private club that was established in 1889 with the current 18-hole, Donald Ross design opening in 1926. The club sits on a 260-acre property that also includes: four tennis courts, two platform tennis courts, pickleball courts, outdoor pool facility, and a large sporting clays complex. The golf course underwent a complete restoration in 2012 and recently completed a new irrigation system installation. The golf course is currently ranked in the Golfweek top 100 classic list. The club is scheduled to host the US Women's Mid-Am Championship in 2027 and the US Senior Amateur Championship in 2032.
The lead horticulturist position is a leadership position that involves all aspects of landscape and garden management throughout our 260 acre property. Daily tasks will include; water management, pest identification and management, project design and planning, purchasing, budgeting, managing seasonal plantings, staff training, event preparation, and team leadership. We are looking for a talented and ambitious individual to join our team, which currently consists of up to 40 full and part-time staff members. Overtime and weekends will be required, with management typically working 50-60 hours per week during the growing season.
Educational Requirements
An associate’s or bachelor’s degree in horticulture, landscape design, or a related field is required.
Experience Requirements
At least one year of garden or estate management experience is preferred. Experience related to water, pest, and project management is preferred. Knowledge of the applicable growing zone and native plantings is beneficial. Experience with formal landscape design is recommended.
Special Requirements
Must possess or attain a NYS pesticide license within 90 days of employment.
