Assistant Superintendent

Torrington Country Club, founded in 1926, is a historic private golf club located in Goshen, Connecticut. Built on former farmland, the original nine holes opened in 1929, with all 18 holes completed by 1932. Designed by noted New England golf architect Orrin Smith, the par-72 course is known for its classic layout, rolling terrain, and strategic play. Over the years, the club has hosted numerous Connecticut state golf championships and earned a strong reputation within the region.

Over the past decade membership has continued to reinvest into Torrington Country Clubs success. Which includes the recent completion of a Toro 2-wire HDPE system, as well as extensive equipment leasing packages. It is at this time we are seeking a dedicated and motivated Assistant Superintendent to join our grounds management team. This is an exciting opportunity for an individual who is passionate about turfgrass management, enjoys hands-on work, and wants to be part of a collaborative, team‑oriented workplace.

The Assistant Greens Superintendent plays a key role in maintaining our championship‑level playing conditions. The assistant will work closely with the Superintendent, mechanic, and grounds staff. This position helps lead daily operations, supervises staff, and ensures that our members and guests enjoy consistent, high‑quality course conditions. 

Responsibilities are as followed, but not limited to:

- Oversee daily course setup, including pin placements and tee markers

- Confidently apply chemical and fertilizer applications / maintain detailed records of treatments

- Supervise and coordinate a seasonal staff of up to 15 employees during peak season

- Hand watering on Greens - adjust moisture levels to ensure optimal turf health and playability with TDR moisture meter

- Perform irrigation system repairs, including troubleshooting and part replacement

- Ability to learn/ has current knowledge of Toro Lynx irrigation software

- Attend monthly green committee meetings

- Assist in planning and executing all agronomic and maintenance programs

Educational Requirements

Turf certificate, A.S. or B.S. in turfgrass management or related field is preferred

Experience Requirements

- Minimum 2 years of golf course maintenance experience, Assistant experience preferred. Open to recent college graduates with a desire to grow and become a golf course superintendent.

- Strong leadership, communication, and problem‑solving skills

- Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and extended hours

- Passion and drive for delivering exceptional course conditions and member satisfaction

Special Requirements

- Willingness to obtain CT Supervisors or Applicators pesticide license within 90 days
