Assistant Superintendent
Oak Ridge Country Club (ORCC) is seeking a dedicated, high-energy Assistant Golf Course Superintendent to join our leadership team. Founded in 1947 by the pioneering scientists and engineers of the Manhattan Project, our club was literally built by the hands of our founding members. Today, we honor that legacy of hard work and vision through a beautiful Robert Cupp-designed course. ORCC has Bentgrass Greens, Zoysia Fairways and Tees, and Bermuda rough.
As a premier private facility that has hosted legends like Arnold Palmer, local PGA Tour Player Scott Stallings, and local LPGA Tour Player Sophia Schubert, we maintain a standard of excellence that reflects our rich history.This role is designed for a professional who views turf management as both a science and an art, committed to providing a championship-level experience for a membership that values camaraderie, hospitality, and the details of the game.
Assistant Superintendent responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Assists in planning daily work schedules
- Assists the Superintendent in the training of employees.
- Assists in the supervision of various construction projects.
- Applies fertilizers and pesticides as needed.
- Must be able to identify common turf diseases on the golf course.
- Must keep accurate records of applications to the golf course.
- Helps prepare the course for daily play.
- Keeps informed on course starting times and special events.
- Able to grind reels and assist the mechanic as necessary.
- Sets good examples for others to follow in job performance, work safety, equipment care, attendance, and striving for efficiency.
- Ability to stand, stoop, kneel, reach, bend, and lift between 50-100 lbs.
- Willingness to work the hours and days necessary to maintain the course, especially in the summer months.
Educational Requirements
Completion of a Certificate Program or a 2 to 4-year degree in turfgrass management or a related field is preferred.
Experience Requirements
Prior experience is encouraged but not necessary.
Special Requirements
- Leadership, communication, writing, and record-keeping skills
- Critical thinking skills to problem solve effectively
- Ability to obtain or have an Tennessee Pesticide Applicator's license within 90 days of hiring
- Willingness to work weekends, holidays, and in different weather environments
- Knowledge of the game of golf and its rules
- Valid driver’s license
- Professional in manner and appearance
