Seasonal Intern
Pete Dye Golf Club of Bridgeport, WV, is proud to be considered among the country’s finest golf courses, ranking perennially on various “top 100” lists. Legendary designer Pete Dye called it “18 of the most exciting holes I ever built on one course.” Nestled in the foothills of the Allegheny Mountains, the course was constructed on the old site of a working coal mine. The Club is home to West Virginia University Men’s Golf Team and hosts an annual collegiate event in April, which features teams from around the country.
Educational Requirements
Currently enrolled or recently graduated from a Two- or Four-year degree program in turf management or related field (Plant Science, Horticulture, Landscape Architecture, etc.)
Experience Requirements
Must be 18 years of age or older
Must possess a valid driver’s license
Passion for the game of golf and how job performance affects the conditioning of the golf course
Ability to work in a variety of weather conditions
Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping, pulling, continuous standing and walking, repetitive motions.
Special Requirements
The appropriate candidate will be initiative-taking, well organized, dedicated, meticulous and appreciate the importance of working in a team environment. He or she should demonstrate proficiency managing one’s own time and responsibilities while providing a positive example in the work environment. The candidate will be working alongside the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistants. He or she will receive firsthand training across all aspects of daily course maintenance including course set-up, mowing playing surfaces, plant protectant/fertilizer applications, water management, and course enhancement projects. The opportunity to observe and understand personnel management including crew dynamics, time management, organization, and membership expectations. And finally, the opportunity to lay the foundation for their career network is available in this position.
This position will provide a full range of practical abilities as well as the confidence to pursue a career in golf course management. Thus, providing knowledge in maintaining championship quality conditions on a daily basis in the Mid-Atlantic region as well as skills that can translate to courses across the country and world.
