Superintendent/General Manager

Full-time

Position Overview

Harlem Valley Golf Course is a private, low-traffic 9-hole golf course operated by Dover Greens. This is a hands-on superintendent role with a strong mechanical focus, suited for a calm, well-maintained environment rather than a high-volume public facility.

A primary function of this position is equipment diagnostics, repair, and mechanical problem-solving. The superintendent is expected to handle most day-to-day equipment issues in-house, minimizing downtime and reliance on outside service vendors, while coordinating selectively with a part-time professional mechanic for advanced or specialized work.

This position is well suited for an experienced assistant superintendent or a golf-course mechanic who enjoys mowing and field work, wants to remain hands-on, and is looking to level up into broader course responsibility while continuing to work directly with equipment and turf.

Key Responsibilities

Equipment & Mechanical Operations

  • Diagnose, repair, and maintain golf course equipment and machinery

  • Perform mechanical work beyond basic servicing, including troubleshooting and component repair

  • Maintain equipment reliability and readiness with minimal outside servicing

  • Coordinate as needed with a part-time external mechanic for complex diagnostics

Course Maintenance & Daily Operations

  • Perform and oversee daily mowing, course setup, and grounds maintenance

  • Maintain turf conditions consistent with golfer expectations and course standards

  • Execute irrigation, fertilization, disease prevention, and seasonal programs

  • Work directly alongside a 2–3 person crew in a hands-on leadership role

Golf Standards & Presentation

  • Apply practical golf knowledge to course setup and playability

  • Maintain attention to golfer experience and on-course details

  • Communicate priorities, observations, and needs clearly with ownership

  • Collaborate with an external turf and tree consultant (currently bi-weekly inspections) for disease monitoring, chemical programs, and long-term planning
