Spray/Applications Technician

Position Summary:

The Spray Technician is responsible for the safe, accurate, and effective application of fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, and other plant protectants across a newly constructed 36-hole golf facility. This position plays a critical role in establishing and maintaining turf health and presentation standards from the ground up. The Spray Technician works closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and Assistant Superintendents and is ideal for a detail-oriented individual with a strong interest in turfgrass management. Luling has recently finished construction of a state-of-the-art chemical facility to house and operate its 8 new Chem-Turf sprayers equipped with GPS. With annual chemical usage budgeted for over $1 million, the person occupying this role must be able to organize, plan, and revolutionize the chemical application process at Luling. 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Apply fertilizers, herbicides, fungicides, wetting agents, and growth regulators to greens, tees, fairways, roughs, and native areas according to prescribed programs

  • Calibrate, operate, clean, and maintain spray equipment to ensure accurate and consistent applications

  • Mix and handle chemicals safely in compliance with label instructions and regulations

  • Monitor turf conditions and communicate observations related to disease pressure, pests, nutrient deficiencies, or stress

  • Assist in the development and execution of spray programs for 2 new golf courses

  • Maintain detailed and accurate records of chemical usage and applications through playbooks

  • Follow all safety, environmental, and regulatory guidelines, including PPE requirements

  • Assist with irrigation operation, course setup, and general maintenance tasks as needed

  • Support tournament preparation and special projects as assigned

Qualifications:

  • Previous experience as a Spray Technician or in golf course maintenance preferred

  • Knowledge of turfgrass chemicals, application techniques, and calibration methods

  • Ability to operate sprayers and related equipment safely and efficiently

  • Strong attention to detail and commitment to consistency and accuracy

  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team

  • Willingness to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays as required

  • Valid driver’s license required

  • Pesticide applicator license required or ability to obtain within 90 days

Educational Requirements

2 to 4 year degree in Turf Management, or a Certificate program 

Experience Requirements

2+ Years experience as an Intern, AIT, or 2nd Assistant
