Horticulturist
The Hartford Golf Club is seeking an experienced Horticulturist for an ongoing seasonal, part time role. Previous plant experience is required, preferably in a greenhouse or golf course setting. Educational degree in horticulture or a related field strongly preferred. This is an annual seasonal position with an approximate start date of April 1st through the end of the golf season in late October/ early November.
Job Responsibilities:
- Work with the Grounds Superintendent and members of the Grounds Staff to select, purchase, plant, and maintain items that best fit specific areas based on soils, sun light, irrigation, member request, etc.
- Maintaining plantings and flower beds to the highest level- including weekly fertilization, daily water, weeding.
- Monitoring and correcting plant inefficiencies – i.e., disease, insect, drought
- Pruning/removing plant material throughout the property as needed or requested
- Mulching (with assistance from the Grounds Staff) flower beds
- Assist in development and installation of new flower beds
- Design, build, and maintain all planter boxes throughout the changing seasons i.e., spring, summer, fall plantings
- Maintain relationships with local vendors

- This will be a self-driven and self-managed role with guidance from the Grounds Superintendent
- We are seeking an individual with extensive plant experience
- Approximately 20 – 30 hours a week from April 1st through late October/ November; this is an annual seasonal role with a very flexible schedule
- A Grounds Staff member will be available to work with the Horticulturist on a part-time basis
- The Grounds Staff will assist in mulching and edging garden beds and weeding if needed
Educational Requirements
Educational degree in horticulture or a related field strongly preferred.
Experience Requirements
Previous plant experience is required, preferably in a greenhouse or golf course setting.

Physical Demands and Work Environment
- Must be able to work in all kinds of weather conditions and early mornings.
- Able to meet and perform physical requirements and to work effectively in an environment which is typical of this position.
- Frequent lifting, bending, climbing, stooping and pulling.
- May need to use some protective equipment, such as a respirator, gloves, earplugs, eye guards/visors, boots and hat.
