The Country Club of Pittsfield is a private, member owned facility dating back to 1897 and is situated on one of the most historic properties in the city of Pittsfield. The Club is centrally located in south central Berkshire County and is just a few hours' drive from Boston, New York, Northern New Jersey as well as Eastern New York State.
The Country Club of Pittsfield offers many sporting and leisure facilities for the entire family, including a challenging and spectacularly scenic 18-hole golf course. 5 har-tru tennis courts, 4 pickleball courts, 2 paddle courts, and our own fully equipped Morewood Lake. All these amenities are surround a beautiful mansion Clubhouse which serves to accommodate a variety of member dinning and banquet/special event venues.
The Club is home to over 650 golf, racquet, and social members. The golf course is our crown jewel, originally designed by the legendary Donald J. Ross and later updated by Wayne Stiles. Recent course renovations and improvements amplify our lush, rolling par-71, 18-hole course which challenge your skill. The Country Club has a deservedly honored place in the sporting and social life of the Berkshires, a place that continues to keep pace with both tradition and leisure amenities that are so highly valued today.
Position Summary
The Assistant Superintendent will work closely with the Superintendent and agronomy leadership team to help oversee daily golf course maintenance operations, staff development, and long-term turf health initiatives. This role offers hands-on leadership experience, exposure to advanced agronomic programs, and a clear path for professional growth. The Club is in the early planning stages for a complete replacement of the irrigation system.
Key Responsibilities

Assist in daily planning and execution of course maintenance operations

Lead, train, and motivate maintenance staff

Participate in chemical and fertilizer applications and recordkeeping

Monitor turf conditions and assist with agronomic decision-making

Support irrigation system operation, repair, and troubleshooting

Assist with tournament preparation and course setup

Ensure safety compliance and best management practices
Educational Requirements
A degree or certificate in Turfgrass Management, Horticulture, or a related field is preferred but not required for the right candidate.
Experience Requirements
- Two or more years of golf course maintenance experience with proven record of increased responsibility
- An optimistic, self-motivated professional with a sense of urgency coinciding with strong attention to detail
- A Massachusetts pesticide applicator’s license or the ability to obtain one within 90 days
- Solid agronomic knowledge, including plant health, water management
- Strong communication skills and a desire to lead, learn, and advance
