Charles River Country Club is seeking a motivated and dependable summer intern to join our grounds team for the summer season. This position offers hands-on experience maintaining a high-quality private golf course and is ideal for students interested in turf management, agronomy, environmental science, or outdoor work.

Charles River Country Club, located in Newton, MA, is a prestigious private, member-owned club established in 1921. It features an acclaimed 18-hole golf course designed by Donald Ross, renovated in 2012 by Bruce Hepner, and is known for its challenging layout, strategic bunkering, and high-level, classic design.

Position Overview

As an intern you will work closely with the Superintendent, assistants and grounds crew to help maintain the course at championship standards. This role provides practical experience in daily course setup, turf care, and use of professional maintenance equipment.

 

Responsibilities:

Assist with daily golf course maintenance and setup

Mow greens, tees, fairways, and rough

Rake bunkers and maintain sand and drainage areas

Assist with irrigation system checks and repairs

Help with course projects and seasonal improvements

Follow safety procedures and equipment operation guidelines

Maintain a clean, professional work environment

Assist in hand-watering Greens when needed


Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift, push, pull, and carry equipment, tools, or materials weighing up to 50 lbs regularly.

Constant walking, standing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, and reaching. Ability to work early morning shifts, often starting before dawn, and working late when needed

Handling tools, operating mowers, tractors, and utility vehicles

Working outdoors in heat, cold, rain, noise, and vibration

Good vision and hearing (corrected) for safely operating machinery and identifying turf issues
 

Experience Requirements

Previous golf course or grounds maintenance experience preferred but not required
