Assistant Superintendent
Philadelphia Country Club is a private country club located just outside the city of Philadelphia. The club features a 27-hole golf facility, highlighted by the historic Spring Mill Course, a William Flynn design with Bentgrass greens, tees, and fairways. Philadelphia Country Club has a long history of championship golf, having hosted the 1939 U.S. Open, the 2003 U.S. Women’s Amateur, and co-hosted the 2005 U.S. Men’s Amateur. The club will again co-host the U.S. Men’s Amateur in August 2026 alongside Merion Golf Club. In recognition of recent course improvements, Philadelphia Country Club received honorable mention in Golf Digest’s 2025 Renovation of the Year. The Spring Mill and Centennial practice ranges include a combination of three Bermudagrass tees and one Bentgrass tee, providing diverse practice conditions. Beyond golf, the club offers nine Har-Tru tennis courts, eight recently added platform tennis courts, two pickleball courts, a large resort-style swimming pool, and a shooting lodge, creating a comprehensive year-round member experience.
Assistant Superintendents work closely with the Superintendent in all aspects of daily golf course operations. Responsibilities include course setup, application and record keeping of plant protectants, scouting, moisture management, and crew leadership. Working at Philadelphia Country Club provides motivated candidates with an exceptional opportunity to develop their skills and advance their careers within the turfgrass industry while gaining experience preparing a championship-caliber facility.
Philadelphia Country Club recently finished our 2-phase renovation of the Spring Mill golf course. The renovation consisted of construction of new USGA greens and regrassing of tees, and fairways. The greens are a blend of Coho and Piranha Bentgrasses. The tees and fairways are a blend of Luminary and Piranha Bentgrasses. The bunkers were renovated to the Better Billy Bunker system, and the irrigation system was upgraded to the newest Toro LSM system.
