Assistant Superintendent
Position Overview:
The Assistant Superintendent supports the 1911 Group Superintendent in the daily maintenance and operation of a the Union Country Club golf course. This position is hands-on and supervisory in nature, helping to plan daily work activities, train staff, and ensure the course is maintained in a safe, efficient, and high-quality manner that supports public play and operational goals.
Key Responsibilities:
Course & Grounds Operations
- Direct and participate in the maintenance of greens, tees, fairways, bunkers, roughs, native grass areas, and cart paths.
- Assist in planning and adjusting daily maintenance activities based on weather conditions, course priorities, and golf schedules.
- Perform all functions related to golf course setup and maintenance as directed by the Golf Course Superintendent.
- Assist with irrigation system operation, troubleshooting, and repair to ensure proper water management.
- Apply sand, fertilizers, and pesticides in a safe and proper manner, following all regulatory and environmental guidelines.
Team Leadership & Workforce Support
- Assist the Golf Course Superintendent and other superintendents in supervising the maintenance crew.
- Help assign, communicate, and oversee daily crew work assignments.
- Train and develop groundskeepers to improve skill level, efficiency, and consistency.
- Lead by example to promote a strong safety culture and positive work environment.
Equipment & Maintenance Management
- Ensure proper use, care, and storage of all maintenance and application equipment.
- Assist in keeping all application equipment calibrated and in good working condition.
- Inspect equipment regularly and report deficiencies or repair needs to the Equipment Manager.
- Perform daily tasks to keep the maintenance facility clean, organized, and safe within departmental operating standards.
Customer & Stakeholder Support
- Work collaboratively with Superintendent, golf operations, and clubhouse staff to support daily play, leagues, tournaments, and outings.
- Maintain a professional on-course presence and interact positively with golfers when appropriate.
Administrative & Operational Duties
- Maintain accurate chemical application records and labor tracking for operations and projects.
- Assist the Golf Course Superintendent in developing the annual operating budget related to applications, equipment, and course maintenance operations.
- Support compliance with safety, environmental, and regulatory requirements.
- Perform other duties as assigned by the Golf Course Superintendent or leadership team.
Qualifications:

Education & Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent preferred
- Previous experience with course maintenance on a public or private course is preferred

Skills & Abilities:
- Experience in golf course maintenance, turf management, or a related field.
- Working knowledge of turfgrass practices, chemical applications, and equipment operation.
- Ability to supervise, train, and motivate crew members in a public golf environment.
- Strong organizational, communication, and time-management skills.
- Attention to detail and commitment to safety and environmental stewardship.
- Ability to work flexible hours, including early mornings, weekends, and holidays.
Working Conditions and Physical Requirements:
