Assistant Superintendent
White Lake Golf Club is an 18 hole private golf course nestled between White Lake and Lake Michigan in Whitehall, MI. The course was built in 1916 and designed by renowned golf course architect Tom Bendelow. The club is the only member owned facility in the area and strives to give its membership the highest quality playing conditions it has to offer. White Lake is in an ongoing course and irrigation renovation that began in 2021 and has future plans to complete its overhaul of the course and driving range facility in the coming seasons.
The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent reports to the Golf Course Superintendent. Under the Superintendent's supervision, the Assistant Superintendent directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course tees, greens, fairways, and cart paths; and completes related work as required. The Assistant Superintendent may serve in a Superintendent's capacity during his absence.
Primary responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Assist in planning and supervising maintenance of greens, tees and fairways; schedules work; and supervises employees and use of equipment.
Instruct equipment operators on operation and care of mowing and other equipment and performs mowing as needed; supervises and performs pesticide applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment; supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of pumps and irrigation and drainage systems.
Assist in personnel management and evaluation, employee safety, and personnel discipline. May also modify daily work schedule based on professional interpretation.
Fill in for superintendents during absence.
Assist in irrigation operation, maintenance and repairs.
Maintain chemical storage and mixing areas in compliance with county, state, and federal regulations and is responsible for the safety and direction of chemical handlers and/or helpers.
Perform fertilizer and chemical applications to all areas of the golf course.
Follow instructions given by the Golf Course Superintendent.
Hands-on in all aspects of golf course maintenance.
Educational Requirements
Associate’s or Bachelor’s degree in Turfgrass Management, Agronomy, or related field (or equivalent experience)
Experience Requirements
- The ideal candidate would have 1-4 years in turf grass management with increasing responsibilities
- Strong communication, organization, and leadership skills
- Attention to detail and a strong work ethic

demanding tasks. - Hardworking, punctual, and with a great attitude

Capability to lift 50 lbs., stand, bend, and move for extended
periods
Special Requirements
- Michigan pesticide applicator license (or ability to obtain promptly)
- Ability to work early mornings, weekends, and holidays
- Valid driver’s license required
- Prior experience with fertilizer and pesticide applications recommended
