Assistant Golf Course Superintendent (Exempt)

Position Summary
The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent is a salaried, exempt leadership role responsible for supporting the Golf Course Superintendent in the planning, coordination, and execution of all golf course and grounds maintenance operations.
This position plays a key role in staff leadership, operational decision-making, and turf management strategy while helping ensure optimal playing conditions and adherence to safety, environmental, and quality standards.
Reporting directly to the Golf Course Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent exercises independent judgment, leads maintenance operations, and provides day-to-day supervision of the golf course maintenance team. This role may assume full operational responsibility in the Superintendent’s absence.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Assist in planning, scheduling, and overseeing daily golf course maintenance operations, including course setup and conditioning
- Provide direct supervision and leadership to maintenance staff, including participation in hiring, training, coaching, and performance management
- Monitor turf health, course conditions, irrigation performance, equipment functionality, and safety concerns, and recommend corrective actions as needed
- Assist with chemical and fertilizer planning, application oversight, compliance, and recordkeeping
- Support water management strategies, irrigation system maintenance, and long-term turf health initiatives
- Coordinate with the Superintendent and Equipment Manager regarding equipment maintenance, repair needs, and capital planning
- Lead and enforce safety protocols through training, meetings, and on-course implementation
- Assume operational responsibility for the golf course in the Superintendent’s absence, as assigned
- Perform additional leadership or operational duties as needed to exceed member and guest expectations
Educational Requirements
- Bachelor’s or Associate degree in Agronomy, Turfgrass Management, or a related field
Experience Requirements
- Minimum of two (2) years of progressive experience in golf course maintenance
- Current New Jersey Pesticide Applicator’s License, or ability to obtain within a designated timeframe
Special Requirements
Physical & Work Environment Requirements
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds, walk extended distances, bend, climb, and perform site inspections
- Ability to work in varying weather conditions including heat, cold, humidity, wind, and light precipitation
