Assistant Superintendent

Winged Foot Golf Club is a private club with two 18-hole golf courses located in Mamaroneck, NY and is located just 20 miles north of NYC.  A.W. Tillinghast designed the two championship caliber golf courses. The club was opened for play in 1923, and will be hosting the U.S. Open Championship in 2028. We are currently looking for an Assistant Superintendent to be an integral part of our team leading up to and including the U.S. Open.

Winged Foot has a storied history of hosting national championship golf.  The 128th U.S. Open will mark the seventh time the championship has been held at Winged Foot.  It will also be the 14th USGA championship to be hosted by the club. During its 100-year history, the club has been the site of six U.S. Opens, two U.S. Amateurs, two U.S. Women’s Opens, one U.S. Senior Open, one U.S. Amateur Four-Ball and one Walker Cup Match. In addition, Winged Foot hosted the 1997 PGA Championship.

Since Winged Foot’s opening, both the West and East courses have been consistently ranked in the Golf Digest top 50 in the United States. The club recently completed a restoration of both golf courses and built a new state-of-the-art turf care facility, simulator building, and is currently doing restorations to Tee and Bunker complexes in preparation for the 2028 U.S. Open. 

Assistant Superintendent reports to the Director of Golf Courses and works alongside the turf management team to provide championship conditions on both courses daily. The ideal candidate must be motivated with the desire to advance in the golf course maintenance industry. The Assistant Superintendent will be responsible for proper fertilization and plant protectant applications, water management, project management, irrigation repair, and participating in daily maintenance practices.    

Educational Requirements

Applicants must have completed a 2- or 4-year degree in Turf Management or related field.

Experience Requirements

Minimum 2 years of golf course maintenance experience.

Special Requirements

The ideal candidate must be self-motivated with a drive to succeed in a fast-paced team environment, and with the understanding of the commitment it takes to maintain two top 50 golf courses daily, with a focus on preparing for the upcoming U.S. Open Championship. The Assistant Superintendent will be an important member of the turf management team and will gain the skills and knowledge necessary to advance their career in the golf course maintenance industry.  Must have or be able to obtain a NYS pesticide applicators license.
