Assistant Superintendent

Penn Oaks Golf club is seeking qualified candidates for an Assistant Superintendent.  

Located on 130 acres in West Chester, PA, Penn Oaks Golf Course is a historic 18-hole private course established in 1965, designed by Russell Roberts on land originally granted by King Charles II to William Penn. Known for its challenging par 71 6,610-yard layout, it was acquired by Concert Golf Partners in late 2024 to enhance its premier, historic reputation.

The Assistant Superintendent will have exposure to progressive turf management strategies, capital project planning, and high-level team leadership within a forward-thinking operation. Under the leadership of the Golf Course Superintendent, the Assistant Superintendent will participate and assist in all maintenance programs for the golf course including the training and supervision of approximately 15 employees.  The Assistant Golf Course Superintendent will be a hands-on leader responsible for planning, implementing, overseeing, and assisting the team in the daily activities on the golf course, including golf course set-up, weekly cultural practices, fertilizer application, and calibration, solving and repairing irrigating issues, and leading/assisting with short—and long-term golf course projects.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Leading and assisting the team, delegating and assigning daily assignments, providing guidance, training, coaching, and assistance, and ensuring work is completed as expected and in a timely manner.
  • Assisting and managing the implementation of the agronomic plan and budget for the course and grounds.
  • Identifying, evaluating, and recommending corrective action for agronomic problem areas, including funguses, pests, watering, and drainage issues.
  • Assisting in overseeing and supporting the daily set-up and maintenance of the golf course, including routine golf course maintenance, chemical applications, and equipment operations.
  • Inspect irrigation systems, identify issues, and implement corrective action.
  • Assisting in the recommendation, evaluation, planning, and implementation of long-term and short-term projects related to renovations, repairs, and care and maintenance of the course.
  • Assisting in training new and existing staff in golf course equipment operations, safety procedures and the expectations of the Club.
  • Educating and ensuring the team is aware of and follows safe work practices, and maintaining facilities and equipment that are safe, clean, and organized

Educational Requirements

2 or 4 year degree in Turfgrass Management or related field

Experience Requirements

  • 2+ years of Golf Course Experience with a proven record of having exceptional course conditions.
  • Knowledge of pest control products and their applications.
  • Knowledge of turf chemical and fertilizer products and their applications.
  • Knowledge of irrigation utilization, hand watering, drainage installation, repair, and maintenance.
  • Have a current Pennsylvania state pesticide applicator license or the ability to acquire one within 60 days of hire
  • Have a current drivers license 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office, including Word, Outlook, Excel and PowerPoint.
  • A Bachelor’s, Associate, or Certification in turf grass management or related experience.
