2nd Assistant Superintendent

Old Elm is seeking a qualified, highly motivated, team oriented individual to join our team. The assistant will lead and direct a diverse staff in a wide range of activities including, but not limited to, daily golf course maintenance, implementing of spray programs, purchasing and ordering, project planning and staffing. The applicant will work closely with and report directly to the Superintendent. By utilizing a strong network and industry ties the Superintendent will assist you in reaching your career goals.

Initial Priorities of Position: 

• Oversee operations of all golf course maintenance that provides our members and guests with championship golf experience on a daily basis.
• Moisture management to provide firm, fast playing conditions daily.
• Implement cultural practices to manage all playing surfaces.
• Supervise calibration, application, and record keeping of plant protectants.
• Lead the completion of ongoing restoration projects.

Preferred Requirements:

• Certificate or 2 – 4-year Turf grass related degree.
• Prior golf course maintenance experience
• Computer skills and technology aptitude 

Special Requirements

• Self-motivated with a positive attitude and proven leadership skills for diverse staff.
• Knowledge of calibration, plant protectant applications, native areas, bentgrass/poa management.
• Obtain Illinois pesticide license.
• Ability to operate and train staff on all turf related equipment.
• Must possess a strong attention to detail.
• Ability to clearly communicate with staff, Superintendent and Equipment Manager.
• Perform physical tasks such as being able bend, pull and lift at least 50 lbs.

Compensation and Benefits

• $60,000- $70,000

About Us:

Old Elm Club is an exclusive club with 200 members designed by famed golf course architect Harry Colt and constructed by Donald Ross.  Old Elm Club is the only project the two noted architects ever collaborated on.  Beginning in 2010 the membership and staff have undertaken an extensive restoration of the golf course to return it to Colt’s original vision. This restoration has included a full bunker restoration, new state of the art irrigation system and both green and fairway expansions. The restoration is an ongoing project with more fairway expansions, bunker renovations, along with the addition of a 6-hole short course and driving range.
