Wapika Ranch, a private working ranch and family retreat, is seeking a qualified full-time 2nd Assistant Golf Course and Grounds Superintendent. The existing nine-hole golf course is located at 6925’ elevation in a remote rural area on the upper Green River 20 miles south of Pinedale, Wyoming.  The Golf Course Architect is Carl Thuesen and the par 36, 3652-yard design utilizes the Green River and its tributaries, natural wetlands, irrigation ditches, and 4 ponds to create a unique test of golf that is both challenging and playable for all golfers. The Ranch also includes a Fishing Village, a Riding Arena, and a Children’s Barn along with extensive landscaping at each facility. The Ranch is in the process of constructing an additional nine-holes. Construction began on the ‘Moose 9’ in July 2024 with a projected completion date of November 2025. Pinedale is the gateway to the Wind River Range, Wyoming Range and the Jackson Hole Area, including Teton and Yellowstone National Parks.  Wyoming is an outdoors state with low property taxes and no state income tax.  Both winter and summer outdoor recreation activities abound in a small-town atmosphere.  Responsibilities: The 2nd Assistant, under supervision of the Golf Course Project Manager and the Golf Course Superintendent, will be involved in all advanced aspects of golf course construction and establishment of the new 9 holes. The 2nd Assistant will also be involved with the everyday operation of the existing golf course and grounds. After construction is complete, the 2nd Assistant will continue with the Golf Course Maintenance staff.  Duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to monitoring the golf course construction specifications, fertilizer and chemical applications for establishing the new holes, and participating in operation and programming of the irrigation system.

Located on the north shore of Chicago, Winnetka Golf Club is a premier 27 hole public golf facility, featuring an 18 hole championship golf course, as well as a challenging 9 hole par 3 course. The AIT/2nd assistant will play a crucial role in the overall care of both of these golf courses.  About the club: Winnetka golf club was originally designed by William Langford in 1917. The club later built a 9 hole par 3 course on newly acquired land on the south end of the property. The entire property was closed for the better part of 18 months to undergo a full renovation, and opened up to the public again in the fall of 2024. The project was intended to address serious water retention issues, and was consulted on by the army corps of engineers. JOB SUMMARY: Directs and participates in the maintenance of the golf course tees, greens, fairways, and cart paths.  Participates in the supervision of the golf course maintenance (GCM) crew and does other related work as required.  May serve as the direct supervisor in the absence of the Golf Course Superintendent or the 1st Assistant Golf Course Superintendent. ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Responsible for 20-25 full time employees in the absence of the Golf Course Superintendent. Regularly supervises teams of 5-8 employees on a daily basis. Must know proper maintenance procedures and basic agronomic practices for greens, fairways, tees, lakes, roughs, bunkers, and all other appropriate areas.  Assists in daily scheduling of the work crew.  Assists in the hiring and training of new employees to the golf course maintenance team. Responsible for the proper application of pesticide applications and/or operates and calibrates pesticide application equipment.  Supervises and participates in the operation and maintenance of irrigation pumps and irrigation and drainage systems. Oversees completion of various work assignments and assists in field decisions regarding job procedures, work standards and machinery use. Enforces safe working methods.  Reports disciplinary problems to the GCS and/or 1st Assistant GCS. Keeps current with new ideas, equipment, fertilizers, chemicals, etc., through publications, seminars and professional development opportunities.
