By Northeast Harbor Golf Club, - updated Wednesday at 10:54 PM - Northeast Harbor, Maine
Harbor Golf Club is located in Northeast Harbor, Maine. This is an 18-hole golf course located on Mount Desert Island and shares a border with Acadia National Park. The course was founded and originally laid out in 1895 making it one of the oldest courses in the state of Maine. Although the 18-hole par 70 golf course only plays to 5,602 yards, it is an extremely challenging golf course that will test low handicap players, yet is still fun for higher handicaps as well. The club has a lot of modernization planned for the near future. This year we had Ron Forse draw up a master plan for general improvements, including reshaping bunkers, adding and reshaping mounds, and exposing the natural granite of the area. NEHGC is scheduled to have Tanto Irrigation install a new irrigation system in 2027. This will be a full HDPE valve-in-head system operating on two-wire. The system will require a significant pond enlargement along with the installation of a new pump station. The second assistant will be involved in all aspects of managing this property. Spray and fertilizer applications the calibration of such, irrigation repairs and setting the system to run for the night, maintenance of all equipment including grinding reels and bed knives setting cutting units and general equipment maintenance. I look to maintain a good work/life balance and this is an amazing place to do so, with Acadia National Park as our neighbor. This is a great place to raise a family and for an outdoorsman, this area will not disappoint. The hiking, canoeing and kayaking, rock climbing, fishing, and hunting opportunities in the area are truly second to none.
