Position Overview: The 2nd Assistant Golf Course Superintendent will play a key role in maintaining the golf course's pristine condition, ensuring that all aspects of the grounds are properly managed and maintained. Working closely with the Golf Course Superintendent and the 1st Assistant Superintendent, this position involves overseeing course operations, managing the maintenance staff, and ensuring that the course meets high standards for playability, aesthetics, and safety. The 2nd Assistant Superintendent will also assist with the planning and execution of turf management, irrigation, and landscaping projects. Key Responsibilities:  Assist the Golf Course Superintendent in planning and executing the daily maintenance activities for the golf course, including mowing, fertilization, pest control, and irrigation.  Supervise, train, and manage maintenance staff to ensure efficient and effective work practices.  Monitor course conditions and identify areas that require attention, including greens, fairways, tees, roughs, bunkers, and landscaping.  Assist in the management of the irrigation system, ensuring proper water distribution and maintaining system performance.   Assist in the application of fertilizers, herbicides, pesticides, and other chemicals in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.      Conduct regular inspections of the golf course, identifying potential issues related to turf health, equipment performance, or staff needs.      Communicate effectively with golf course staff, members, and guests to ensure positive experiences      Assist in budgeting, purchasing, and cost control to maintain the golf course's operations within the allocated budget.

Looking forward, the club will continue to strive for daily championship course conditioning, and generously invest in the golf course and Greens and Grounds department.  Construction of a new paddle tennis clubhouse, pickle courts, as well as extensive renovations to the clubhouse and surrounding grounds are ongoing through 2024. During this process, the entire grounds management staff plays a vital role in managing the impact of these projects, as well as implementing irrigation, turf, and ornamental plantings through the duration of the project.

 The Haven Country Club (Owned by Invited) was originally designed by William Mitchell in the early 1950's and has most recently undergone numerous renovations under the guidance of Forse design. What was once a tight tree-lined course has now become considerably more open after years of tree removals incorporating stunning vistas, natural rock outcrops and large fescue areas. All bunkers on course have also recently undergone renovation. The golf course utilizes a variety of equipment top brands and is suited to complete just about any golf course task. The original nine holes were laid out by Willie Park Jr. during his first visit to the United States in the summer of 1895. The full nine holes measuring 2,677 yards were open by 1900. Thorny Lea Golf Club is a Wayne Stiles/John Van Kleek design established in 1900 but the current design is from 1925. A parkland style golf course situated in the city of Brockton, Thorny Lea is a hidden gem. Touted as having one of the best golfing memberships in the state; the club has many past state tournament winners along with a past women's mid-amateur champion and a men's mid-amateur champion.   The successful candidate can expect to work closely to the superintendent and other assistant(s) to achieve the goals set for that day. In the event the superintendent is away from the property, the assistant will help with managing the golf course. This is not only a supervisory role since we are a smaller operation. The assistant will be expected to be able to manage the crew while performing other duties such as course set up, water management (hand watering) or product application. Extended hours can be expected during the growing season (April - October), and a more flexible, relaxed work schedule during the winter months. A master plan was completed for the course in 2015 with Ian Andrew.  We have been implementing portions of the plan since 2016.  In fall of 2022 we completed a full bunker renovation with Better Billy Bunker liner.   A new Toro 2 wire irrigation system was installed and finished in 2020.  The club is committed to doing master plan work every year.  We are constructing 9 new bunkers this fall and have over a million dollars of work out to bid to be completed in the coming years.
