2nd Assistant Superintendent
Thousand Acres Golf Club is seekiing a motivated individual to fill the role of 2nd Assistant Superintendent/AIT. You will be offered a great learning environment and an even better climate to live and work. We don't have the high heat and humidity that most regions have and its enjoyable to grow grass in this area. You won't work until dark, and you will learn and grow into a great turfgrass manager. You will also have limited off-season responsibilities and plenty of time off during the winter.
TAGC was designed by Craig Schreiner and is in western Maryland on Deep Creek Lake, in Swanton, Maryland. The front 9 was built in 2007 and the back 9 opened last May to great reviews. TAGC offers both memberships and is open for publc play. The greens are A1/A4 bentgrass and the tees and fairways are Declaration bentgrass. The roughs are a mix of Tall Fescue and Kentucky bluegrass. We have many Fine Fescue out of play areas that complement the course.
The 2nd Assistant/AIT will be involved in many tasks but not limited to:
Golf course setup, chemical/fertilizer applications, sprayer/spreader calibration, aeration, verticutting/topdressing, irrigation troubleshooting and repair, water management, fertigation, staff training.
Future Projects to include building state of the art clubhouse, forward family tees, dock installation, sports courts, second maintenance building, continue to renovate front 9 bunkers, PoaCure application on front 9 fairways, recyled water wash station, driving range renovation, short game area installation - the list is long!
Educational Requirements
Applicants should have a certificate/degree in Turfgrass Management but would be willing to work with a current students schedule
Experience Requirements
Entry level experience is expected
Special Requirements
Must be a self starter
Must have basic computer skills with MS Word and Excel
Must have excellent written and verbal communication skills
Must be able to work in adverse weather conditions
