Heritage Club, located in Mason, OH is seeking a positive, and hardworking Assistant in Training (AIT), to work under the supervision of the Superintendent of Golf Course and Grounds.

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the supervision of the Golf Course Superintendent, the Assistant Golf Course Superintendent or Spray Technician, perform routine manual labor involved in golf course maintenance. The Assistant in Training participates in a diverse range of activities involved in golf course maintenance including daily course preparation, mowing, renovations, equipment operation, water, chemical applications, construction projects, etc.

ABOUT HERITAGE CLUB:

Heritage Club was established in 1996 by co-developers Ken Campbell and Robert Rhein who were also developing the surrounding community.  The Club was designed for golfers to enjoy playing golf at a moments notice; the Equity Membership capacity of 295 was set to allow Members to play without tee times. In 2003, the Club was turned over from the developers to the membership and today the Club remains member-owned.  

The P.B. Dye designed 18-hole championship golf course offers a challenging yet enjoyable experience.  The multiple tee locations are ideal for golfers of all skill levels.  While our meticulously maintained golf course has always been the principal attraction, the Clubhouse underwent a major transformation in 2016, redefining the country club experience.  From top to bottom, the Club's already spectacular clubhouse has been updated with state-of-the-art new spaces, furnishings and decor with a goal of exceeding the needs and expectations of the Club's membership.

  • Total staff - 8-11 full time. 28-30 in season

INITIAL PRIORITIES OF POSITION:

KEY SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, APTITUDE AND OTHER TRAITS:

  • Assists the Irrigation Technician, Spray Technician, Construction Foreman, and Safety Director on projects and applications when required.
  • Operates all powered equipment involved in mowing golf course putting greens, aprons, fairways, tees, and rough.
  • Must participate in the Safe Pesticide Training Program, which is a training manual explaining pesticides and fertilizer handling and safety.
  • Waters greens, tees, fairways, and roughs.
  • Performs Course Set-Up, including changing cups, putting flags out, moving tee markers and benches, emptying trash, and maintaining ball washers.
  • Assists in pesticide and fertilizer applications on the course.
  • Rakes and maintains bunkers.
  • Operates trucks and all necessary equipment used in golf course maintenance.
  • Assist in all reconstruction on greens, tees, and fairways including grading and preparing soil, seeding, sodding, etc.
  • Participates in golf course projects including renovations, aerifications, drainage, tree removal, and construction.
  • Performs all fall leaf removal and winter snow removal.
  • During the off-season, performs all necessary winter repairs and paints course and tournament paraphernalia.
  • Leads small work crew during routine maintenance and/or small projects.
  • Knowledge of the tools, methods, and materials used in golf course and grounds landscape construction and maintenance.
  • The ability to safely operate trucks and motorized equipment.
  • The ability to follow oral and written directions and work in cooperation with fellow employees.

  • Ability to diagnose turfgrass disease and nutrient deficiencies.

PREFERRED REQUIREMENTS: 

  • High school diploma or equivalent education preferred.  Ability to understand and follow directions and operate golf course machinery.
  • Actively pursuing or completed a degree or certificate in an agricultural science program with an emphasis on turfgrass management.
  • 1 or more years of experience in golf course maintenance or completed internship
  • Able to acquire Ohio Pesticide license in 90 days
  • Reliable transportation
  • Must be able to work holidays and weekends as these are the busiest times for the golf course.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS:

  • $18.00 - $22.00 per hour, depending on experience.  Opportunity for raises/bonuses when certain learning and skill metrics are met.

Educational Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent education preferred.
