Irrigation Manager

Overview:
As a Golf Course Irrigation Superintendent, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the efficient and effective operation of the irrigation systems to maintain optimal playing conditions on two 18-hole golf courses and club house grounds. You will oversee the planning, installation, maintenance, and repair of irrigation systems, ensuring that water is distributed evenly and efficiently across the entire course.

Responsibilities:
 
  • System Management: Manage all aspects of the golf course irrigation system including programming, monitoring, and adjusting irrigation schedules to meet the specific needs of the course and ensure optimal turf health. 
  • Installation and Upkeep: Oversee the installation, maintenance, and repair of irrigation equipment such as sprinklers, valves, pumps, and controllers. Ensure that all components are functioning properly and efficiently.
  • Water Conservation: Implement water conservation practices and technologies to minimize water usage while maintaining high-quality turf conditions. Monitor water usage and identify opportunities for efficiency improvements.
  • Team Leadership: Lead a team of irrigation technicians and assistants, providing guidance, training, and supervision to ensure tasks are completed safely and efficiently.
  • Budget Management: Assist in developing and managing the irrigation department budget, including forecasting expenses, purchasing equipment and supplies, and ensuring cost-effective operation.
  • Quality Control: Conduct regular inspections of the irrigation system and course conditions to identify issues such as dry spots, overwatering, leaks, or equipment malfunctions. Take corrective action as needed to maintain course playability and aesthetics.
  • Record Keeping: Maintain accurate records of irrigation system maintenance, repairs, water usage, and related activities. Generate reports as needed to track performance metrics and compliance with water regulations.
  • Communication: Collaborate with golf course management, superintendents, and other staff to coordinate irrigation activities with course maintenance schedules, special events, and other operational priorities. Provide regular updates on irrigation system performance and any issues affecting course conditions.

Educational Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent 

Experience Requirements

Experience: Minimum of 3-5 years of experience in golf course irrigation management or a related field, with a demonstrated track record of success in system operation, maintenance, and repair.

Technical Skills: Strong knowledge of irrigation system design, installation, and troubleshooting techniques. Familiarity with irrigation technology and software for scheduling and monitoring water usage.

Leadership Abilities: Proven leadership skills with the ability to effectively manage a team, delegate tasks, and provide clear direction and support.

Problem-Solving Skills: Excellent problem-solving abilities with the capacity to quickly diagnose issues and implement effective solutions to maintain course playability and turf health.

Communication Skills: Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to interact professionally with staff, management, and external vendors.

Attention to Detail: Keen attention to detail and a commitment to excellence in maintaining course aesthetics and playing conditions.

Flexibility: This position requires flexibility in working hours, including early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays. The primary purpose is to accommodate course maintenance schedules and special events. The standard weekly hours for this role range from 40 to 42 hours per week.
