Golf Course Superintendent

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:  Works under the direction of an assigned facility manager to direct and coordinate the crew responsible for the care and maintenance of Memphis City owned golf course. Supervises and aids in duties related to turf management. Inspects and monitors overall turf conditions to determine the needs and care of the golf course. Develops and maintains techniques and soil treatments used for the healthy growth of turf, shrubs, plants, and other greenery, including application of commercial pesticides. Assists with developing procedures, materials, and safety standards applicable to turf diseases and proper safety methods. Assists in plant selection for grounds. Determines priorities of equipment maintenance and repair and schedules maintenance for the golf course. Operates equipment and tools, including turf equipment, tractor with attachments, irrigating systems, and high-pressure pumps. Reviews work performed by external contractors related to equipment and grounds maintenance. Exercises cost control measures to keep operating and capital expenses aligned with approved budgets. Drives to golf courses throughout the City to inspect daily activities and instruct assigned crew on proper use of equipment and completion of duties. Evaluates work performance, maintains daily attendance records, and provides disciplinary actions for assigned staff as required.
