Job Summary

The position of Director of Fleet & Equipment is open and this person will be responsible for overseeing our locations in NC, SC and FL and based out of our Charlotte, NC headquarters.

The ideal candidate is an energetic, strategic positive-thinking, attention to detail and motivated individual with high quality standards and an appropriate skill set. This role reports directly to the company President and will be responsible for ensuring DOT Compliance, maintaining and managing an efficient, mechanically sound and cost-efficient fleet and equipment program for all companies and all locations. Ensures adherence to safety, environmental, vehicle, workplace policies, state and federal regulations. 

This role manages a comprehensive Fleet and Equipment Management Program to include DOT compliance, service and maintenance schedule, inventory and anticipated replacement of all vehicles and equipment, among other related responsibilities.

This position is expected to work shifts from Monday through Friday with occasional evening and weekend work required based upon business levels.

This is a salaried-exempt position with compensation commensurate with experience.

 Job Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements vehicle and equipment strategies, maintenance and repair programs to meet the company’s operating needs and ensure smooth and cost-efficient operations for employees and the business
  • Ensures that fleet vehicles are operated in compliance with the policies of the company and within the rules and regulations of governing authorities (including DOT) with a focus on the preservation of safety and security
  • Identifies opportunities to reduce cost, improve driver behaviors, maximize fuel efficiency and increase productivity
  • Constantly searches for ways/methods to decrease costs and improve fleet processes
  • Maintains the Master Inventory List of vehicles and equipment for all companies and all locations
  • Analyzes vehicle requirements to forecast and plan fleet purchases
  • Oversees records maintenance for inspections, warranties, licenses and registrations
  • Audits equipment maintenance records and practices to ensure regular repairs and maintenance are being performed
  • Inspects vehicle and equipment repairs periodically to maintain quality control and compliance with safety procedures
  • Develops and maintains an ongoing preventative maintenance and replacement plan for vehicles
  • Prepares bid specifications for new vehicles and equipment; inspects vehicles and equipment for quality prior to purchase
  • Manages the organizations compliance with state and federal regulations, such as, but not limited to; Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations, Department of Transportation Laws, State Trucking Regulations
  • Oversees corporate fuel purchasing program and the management usage of fuel cards
  • Manages GPS tracking system ensuring that all units have operating devices at all times
  • Reviews billing and invoices for GPS tracking system to ensure accuracy
  • Ensures parts inventory at each location is within budget and allows for a smooth and efficient maintenance program
  • Develops, maintains and adheres to driver orientation program and driver training programs
  • Audits and or administers driver test to ensure that all drivers have the necessary skills for the vehicles and equipment assigned to them
  • Ensures adherence to scheduled repairs for vehicles and equipment
  • Completion/Execution of all DOT Related reporting.

Educational Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred

Experience Requirements

  • 5-7 years fleet, transportation or fleet  & equipment management experience

  • Must be flexible and willing to answer calls and work outside of normal 8-5 business hours
  • Excellent interpersonal skills – ability to collaborate and partner with Senior Leadership
  • Ability to speak Spanish a plus
  • Time required to travel: 10%
