Position: Golf Course Superintendent

Available: June 1, 2025

Construction is slated to begin for the Half Mile at Terra Cotta, a privately owned short course that will complement the existing Golf Academy at Terra Cotta. The course will consist of ten holes, a 30,000 sq. ft. Himalayas putting course, and a course halfway house on the 40-acre site. The Golf Academy was built in 2013 and consists of a 42,000 sq. ft. grass tee, short game practice area with a 10,000 sq. ft. green and 2 Better Billy Bunkers, a 5,000 sq. ft. putting green, and an indoor facility (3 Trackman bays and 3 GC Quad bays. Construction of the course will begin in June 2025, with plans to seed in August of 2025, with a July 2026 opening.

Responsibilities:

The Golf Course Superintendent will be hired as a project manager to oversee all construction phases, represent the owner(s), and manage and complete the grow-in phase. Upon course opening, the Superintendent shall be responsible for all phases of golf course maintenance and agronomic operations, budget cost control, and personnel management, including but not limited to management of greens, tees, fairways, bunkers, rough, clubhouse landscape, flowers, parking lots, equipment, and the Golf Academy.

Must manage all plant protectant applications, be licensed with a current Illinois Department of Agriculture Operator’s license, and possess a valid State Driver’s license.

The Superintendent will work with Jim Buenzli (managing partner) and Bob Berry (owner) to ensure the best possible playing conditions and golf experience for our customers and guests.

Education and Experience:

Possess an A.S., B.S., or Turf School degree with post-graduation golf course management experience. Previous experience with project management and grow-in is preferred. Computer, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills are essential. Professional manner and appearance in all situations.

Salary and Benefits:

The compensation range is $85,000-100,000

We will offer the superintendent a two-year contract with the intent that the position will go well beyond that timeframe. As the position develops, our commitment to them through benefits and compensation will grow in accordance.
