Equipment/Shop Manager
Job Summary
The organization is currently seeking a qualified individual to fill the Equipment Mechanic position. The individual in this role will be accountable for performing preventative maintenance and repairs on the equipment inventory assigned to Parks and Recreation. This role involves conducting intermediate-level mechanical maintenance, inspections, and necessary repairs on small to medium-sized gas or diesel engines and other equipment within the department. Maintenance work will be carried out on a variety of equipment, including gators, snow blowers, excavators, and stationary equipment located within the facilities. The role may restrict access to equipment considered unsafe for operation, notify the appropriate supervisor(s) of any misuse or damage, and aid in maintaining adherence to workplace safety standards and regulations. In addition, the job requires examining complex repair guides and equipment documentation, identifying mechanical or related equipment problems, assisting in choosing the appropriate repair method, and coordinating vendor warranty work when required.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
• Conducts preventive maintenance and essential repairs on relevant powered equipment, including diesel, gas, or similar engine-driven systems.
• Facilitates the organization of required warranty services with relevant external vendors.
• Facilitates and provides training for relevant departmental personnel regarding the operation and maintenance of equipment.
• Conducts test drives or performs necessary equipment repairs and facilitates the transportation of equipment.
• Utilizes forklifts and comparable machinery to transport equipment requiring repairs within the specified workshop or work area.
• Assists and engages in seasonal response activities, such as snow removal and other weather-related events, while utilizing and endorsing the use of all designated departmental equipment.
• Carries out additional responsibilities as designated.
*The standard work schedule generally runs from Monday to Friday, 6:30 am to 2:30 pm, subject to weather-related occurrences.
Minimum Qualifications
High school diploma or equivalent, preferably with specialized training in equipment repair, diagnostics, or in a similar trade (through either a vocational school and/or apprenticeship) and two (2) years of related experience in equipment maintenance; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Job Contingencies and Special Requirements
Must undergo pre-employment criminal, credit, and DMV background checks. Valid driver’s license and good driving record required. Annual reviews of driving records may be conducted to ensure ongoing qualification. Within six (6) months of employment, it is required to have a CDL (Class A) with passenger, airbrake, and/or tanker endorsements. A successful candidate holding a CDL must pass a pre-employment drug and alcohol screen and comply with the Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Program as outlined by Loudoun County's Alcohol and Controlled Substance Testing Policy for Transportation Employees. First Aid/CPR certifications within 30 days of hire; OSHA, forklift, bucket truck, and other lift truck trainings as required within department timeframes.
