Golf Course Superintendent
Duties & Responsibilities:
- Develop an annual maintenance budget. Including a 12-month agronomic plan, labor plan, and operational budget.
- Proactive and effective communication skills. Written and Oral.
- Must be proficient in Microsoft Word and Excel
- Supervise chemicals, fertilizers, and other control products to ensure they are used, stored, and applied of in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations. Ensure proper record keeping of all chemical and fertilizer applications.
- Recruit, hire, train, and manage a strong maintenance team. Ensure team is cross-trained in all facets of the operation.
- Possess strong leadership skills that inspire and motivate the golf course maintenance team
- Formulate and implement staff development programs
- Effectively communicate and work with other department heads on scheduled events, agronomic plans, and current conditions of the golf courses.
- Ensure equipment is maintained in good working condition, proactive with preventative maintenance, and ensure maintenance logs are kept, organized and up to date.
- Ensure irrigation system is maintained in good working order.
- Demonstrate the ability to meet deadlines, possess strong administrative skills with submissions of invoices in a timely manner, maintain an organized work environment and present strong record keeping, organizational skills.
- Develop, implement, and ensure all golf course construction projects completed on time and within budget.
Educational Requirements
Degree/Licenses:
Bachelor’s degree (BS), Associate degree (AA) or equivalent from a four or two year college or technical school; or three to four years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination and experience. Degree preference in agronomy/horticulture/plant/soil science. Must hold or be able to obtain a Florida Turf and Ornamental Applicator License within 90 days of employment
Experience Requirements
· Minimum 5 years of golf course maintenance experience in a leadership role to include golf, turf fertilization, calibration, pest control and irrigation system management, equipment PM and repair.
- Thorough knowledge of general business procedures as would normally be acquired through a secondary education, obtaining a two- or four-year degree in turf management or related field or trades training and work related experience in turf management
- Member in good standing with GCSAA
- Thorough knowledge of general business administration practices and golf course operations practices and procedures as would be acquired through five years of similar golf course maintenance experience in progressively responsible position
- Minimum three years as Assistant Golf Course Superintendent or equivalent experience, or successful completion of Senior Assistant Golf Course Superintendent Training Program
- Prior supervisory experience required. Working knowledge of golf course operations, turf management and practices necessary
